1990 Camry Noobie

Hey all.

ME:
A 22 year old Electrical Engineer from Southern California. I have been around camryman.org and teamsc3.com for a while, but have just started visiting 'round these parts.

MINE:
I own a 1990 Camry DX with 260k miles on it. It has been nearly flawless through its whole life, and the manual transmission somewhat makes up for its weak engine.

MODS:
I don't quite have a comprehesive list of mods, but here's what I remember off the top of my head:

PIAA 1400 fog lights
White/clear front turn signals from a 1991 Camry
ES250 Strut tower bar
Sidemarker lights wired as turn signals
Intrax lowering springs w/ Tokico struts
Custom hand machined and clearcoated aluminum shift knob (all myself!)
Whiteline Rear swaybar (awesome mod!)
Tint all around 50front/35rear
Pioneer CD headunit
3 1/2" Kicker front speakers, 6 1/2" Sony Xplod rear
Brownbread sound deadening on rear doors and trunk (rest of car coming soon)
2 12" Subs driven by an MTX 81000d amp and 1 farad cap

Coming soon:
Custom CAI (in progress)
Whitline front swaybar (to be installed)
Euro clear corner lights (need to be modded to fit)

Future plans:
88-89 Celica short shifer (researching... help anyone? will it fit?)
Interior lighting (blue LEDs/neons)
3s-gte swap with 3s-gte manual tranny

Click the picture in my sig for pics.

Welcome!

Nice Camry. I like the side markers as turn signals thing.

Chris.

Another noob...

[size=2]DAMN that's nice ! I've got an 87 similar to yours in silver. Needs a new fender (dented b-4 i got the car) and the hood needs a repaint but the body's in good shape. I see you lowered your camry... how much did that (the springs) and the whiteline bar set you back? I just put new frt struts in mine and it's like a slot car compared to before (104 k on the original struts!!!) but it's still too sloppy. Hence my interest in what you did. I want to get Bridgestone RE950s (NICE tire!!) in the spring.

It's nice to see more second-gen cars coming out... at times I think we get no respect....

You will definitely get a much tighter ride with the springs and struts. Try www.summitracing.com for the springs and www.shox.com for the struts. If you have non-servicable struts, you can get KYB GR-2 struts instead of the Tokicos. It was about 200USD for the springs and about 280USD (I think) for the struts. The whiteline swaybar you can order from www.whiteline.com.au. I got mine through a groupbuy a few months back at www.camryman.org. I can't wait to get the front bar installed.

I do my best to keep my car clean and nice, so that I get as much respect as possible

My sidemarkers only blink with the turn signals, and the corner lights are stock (ie they don't blink). I do have amber bulbs in the corner lights though, I think it looks bettter that way... No dingy yellow-ish color, but no blue hyperwhite style light to attract attention.

Nice gen2. I have been looking for a front strut brace from an es250. Where'd you get yours at?

Thanks!

I'm lucky enough to be nearby TAP Recycling (www.taprecycling.com) fairly often. They are notmally out of stock of the bars though. I went inside, and actually had to go out into the yard and tell them exactly what part I wanted off the car. I think I got it for $35. You can also custom make your own from other bars if you want... email me or 88LE for more info.
