This is not my first post here as I've been lurking for quite some time now as I've been hunting for an AE86 to call my own. Now that I finally own one (been a week now!) I see it as an appropriate time to post this.
Me:
My name's Jerry and I'm a co-founder of the Toronto Prelude Club (www.hondaprelude.to) ... another great club in Ontario that's specific to Honda Preludes. I'm relatively new to the import car scene as I only got into it when I purchased my lude in 99. Since that time I've been learning alot about DIY mechanics mainly in the suspension area and have been upgraded my driving skills as time permits. I've attended Ian Law's Car Control School (www.carcontrolschool.com) and realize that I have alot to learn about driving .. but don't we all
Mine:
I just picked up a red 87 GTS coupe last week. I honestly prefer the hatchback type since I was a kid. I remember driving around in the back of my dad's '79 Buick Century stationwagon and seeing mid-to-late 80's styles of cars and thinking "golly gee, I like those hatchbacks. Now I want candy." But I'll take what I can get, and I got a very nice specimen. It's completely stock, bodywise it's got very little rust, underbody is immaculate, and the interior is very clean. Engine has low compression and there's a few things that need to be done still to "get me thru winter" but I think I got a handle on most.
Mods:
As I just picked up the car I don't have any mods. I did replace the front rotors with "Euro"s (supposedly the same company that makes Brembos) and front KVR pads. I got some generic rotors and pads for the rear and it needed new rear shocks that the PO put on ... some generic red ones. Picked up some Supra rims, got an OEM LSD on order, had to replace the alternator ... ya fun stuff. Engine swap maybe next year if this one dies on me.
Anyways, I look forward to eventually meeting up with some of the TO 86 crew to trade some ideas and check out your rides. Even tho this car isn't as luxurious or "prestigious(?)" as the Prelude it's nice to drive around in a car that isn't so common. And RWD is fun in the rain!
