Every local autocross for the rest of the season is booked full... I'm signed up for one in August, and then another that's local, but not with a local club, in October. WTF? Is autox this popular where you folks are? It's cool to have so much participation, but damn... if I have to know now if I can do an event in September? That's f'd up.
It's mainly a problem with venue size... most events are limited anywhere from 120-175 drivers.

Man, if you're got events with that many people... no wonder they put hard limits. Around here the events can get pretty full but nowhere near that many people. The most I ever saw was something like 115, but average is typically 75.
Is it possible to preregister, then just cancel if it turns out you can't go?
Another option would be to see if you can show up and take someone else's place who hasn't shown up (because THEY preregistered then never came).

Man, that sucks... I don't know what to tell you.
That's the thing, they require pregristration for all events online. But people don't show up, so they may start requiring prepay also. There are waiting lists a mile long for each event (in the case that people cancel).
My next event is in 2 weeks, but with a different club. MAC has issues with Venue size, and they also need to run races more often. I've talked to friends in TX and they run them every weekend
MAC took over the place of SCCA-LOL, so we don't have anyone else running events in this area. It sucks pretty bad considering the number of new people that are racing now. We had an 80% return rate from people who went to our Novice school (Having to be true Novices, meaning less than 2 events under their belt), compared to our 20% return the year before. What's going to happen if the same amount of people join next year????

You know, as much as it can suck, prepay is really the way to go. That keeps the slackers from filling up slots. Maybe a $5 or $10, non-refundable deposit at least... Can you go over to like Wisconsin or something? It's, what, a 45min drive to hit the border from the cities, right?

I'm driving to La Crosse (2.5 hours) on the 24th for an event, and then for a 2 day event in August. I might try and make it out fro some Milwaukee events if I can find someone to room with.
Otherwise, I'm going to be an Event Master for an upcoming Rally-Cross
