The first thing you do is defeat the safety shutoff mechanism.....
I'm not much on safety stuff....but do wear my bike helmet....buckle
up in a car....and leave the f*ing safety cutoff on my lawnmower in
place...

I defeat the safety shutoff on the lawn mower. It's more of a hazard
than safety feature. I do wear seat belts and have since 1966 even when
they weren't law except in California. Seat belts are a good thing.

Well I have a hill down to the canal in back of my house. Darwin says
that when I am pushing the mower up the hill I'll mess up and the
mower will run over me some day. At least the blade will be slowing
down when it gets to me...LOL
sooooooooooooo I have the 'kill switch' still hooked up. The first
time I defeat it...good bye world...LOL

I always buy a mower with a blade clutch. When I let go of the handle the
blade stops but the engine keeps running.
As far as riders, I've had several. On some the transmission lever could
be in a bad place and you could put it in neutral but nudge it into drive as
you step off and get yourself run over. Better off turning it off when
getting off.

I was wondering the same thing. Clearly, the safety stuff can be a pain in
the ass, but I fail to see how safety equipment can CREATE a safety issue.
At worst, it creates a pain because you have to restart the machine
everytime the safety stuff kicks in.

Because every time I have to release the damn mower safety device thingy
the engine shuts off then I have to pull on the damn recoil starter to
get it going again which is not good for my back and also my temper. So
I disabled the damn stupid device and use my mower like I've used mowers
ever since I was 15 or 16. Never had an accident with a lawn mower or
with a car. Common sense is where it's at. The more people are
released from common sense the more they get into trouble. These safety
devices only make people lazy and unattentive.

The reason they have to put that crap on our stuff is because there are too
many people that are complete idiots that haven't got a lick of common
sense. The whole reason they need safety stuff on a lawn mower is because
some putz mowed his toes off.

A guy I worked with readed under the mower to pull out a branch that had
gotten stuck in it.
Luckily, it only BROKE his fingers...
The reason they do this isn't to protect US, it's to protect themselves!
Look at all the assinine lawsuits in this country brought because the
PLAINTIFF was a DUMBASS! Lawsuits almost killed Civil Aviation in the
country; check the price of a new light aircraft. The lawsuit is built
into the price of the plane. Same with just about everything else these
days. Because Americans are Sue Happy, we ALL pay.
Let's see if Ray O reads this one: My stepfather was driving a '76 0r '77
Hi-Lux when the heater core let go all over his leg at about 212 degrees.
SEVERE burns.
Never did a thing. Insurance paid the medical bills and he retired shortly
after that.
Hey, Ray, remember the little elbow that would rot through...and dump
collant all over the driver's leg?
He never even THOUGHT of filing a lawsuit, and I bet Toyota would have
paid him a quarter mil without batting an eye...

The real reason is a liberal juries. We need tort reform bad. This
bullshit won't happen if people know they won't get big lawsuit awards
from being stupid. Next thing you and me and everyone else is we'll
have to take a certified class on operating lawn mowers, paid by us of
course, and the fine for operating a modified lawn mower will be 5 years
hard time in a max security prison.
This shit keeps on accumulating the more we give in to it the more we
get.
Be happy in your work comrade, you owe it to the commune.
