I recently bought a 98 celica sx. When I purchased it, the remote for the
keyless entry didn't open the doors, or activate the alarm, the central
locking still works fine thought.
I had head from another forums that in other cars you have to re-program the
remote.
So I was wondering if this is correct for the celica model too, and if
anyone knew how to do it?

Is it a Toyota keyless entry, or an aftermarket? The Toyota will have the
Toyota logo on the fob, an aftermarket won't.

Hmmm...you could try calling Toyota Customer Care or go to their web site.
You'll need some info such as VIN and reg number. They may not help you
on-line or over the phone, since they might think you are trying to steal
the car!
Or go to a Toyota dealer or an alarm specialist...

This is a pretty tough problem unless qslim or someone closer to the
situation can help you, but like I said, people are afraid in helping you
rip off a car!
Same thing for getting a key made. Have to go in with license/owner and
registration!

Quick update time
Took the car to a toyota service centre, and they said it was the remote and
that it would cost me $114 for the remote and that was it . I then goto pick
it up at 1, and its still in the workshop, they ask to keep it until 4. A
little bit before 4, i get a call and guess what, its the ecu. Somehow it's
been fried and i need a new one. $240 + labour later ><. So yeh, gunna get
that done on tues.
