7 1/2 days of nothing but rain! First 24 hours dumped 11 inches (I live on
a hill, so no flooding here.)
If you've seen the pictures of the trailer park in Western Mass, that's 7
miles from where I live. It's been on all the Nationals.
anywhere from 3/4 to 2 inches every day after that! Brooks have become
streams, streams have become rivers, and don't even ask about the rivers!
Fields are ponds, ponds are lakes, and don't even ask about the lakes!
Local golf course is now a lake.
I don't think I've seen this much water in my entire life! Ended about
4:45 this afternoon, and the moon is shining so bright it's almost as
light out now as it was some days!
Interstate 91 in Enfield CT collapsed, forcing all the traffic onto US RT
5. Route 5 certainly cannot handle that kind of traffic!
As bad as we got it, the people to the north and siuth got it worse.
Connecticut is a mess, and Keene NH and the surrounding towns are even
more of a diaster, with roads and bridges totally gone in some areas.
At least from the looks of things, the next few days we get to dry out,
finally...

Jesus...you poor buggers down there...we had heavy rain for about
two hours about 5 or 6 days ago then the occasional shower maybe
3 - 4 days ago, it's been mostly sunny since, farmers are heavy
into digging potatoes all over the Island here...been cool
though, about 60-65F I guess...

Sorry, misreported. Rt 91 didn't collapse, it just flooded so much it
couldn't be used.
Minor roads did collapse, however, one collapse making a 30 ft deep
crater in the roadway.
NOW we have wind gusts up to 45 MPH, and the problem there is with the
ground so wet they are warning of uprooting trees.

This is the set of events that led to the death of my 2000 Camry V6 with
a manual transmission :-( This was the last year of Toyota put a manual
in a V6 4 door Camry :-( It has rained a few days before, the wind
kicked up a bit, but it was sunny - and the tree fell down when I was
driving home from work.
If you are a photographer, now would be the time to get the cameras out.
You may never see these conditions again and the grandchildren will
not believe your stories. A good tripod and slow shutter speed will
emphasis the motion of the trees with the gusts.

I can't believe people from the town I used to live in, Claremont, NH died
in that flooding! The only thing I saw in the 11 years we lived in NH was
lots of snow - rain was never a big problem; in fact it was always welcome.
WTF is going on with the weather?!
I don't think you did misreport the first time. Local TV (WFSB, Channel3)
showed a sinkhole on 91 in Enfield. They're still working on it today, even.

Well Nat, its obvious. Bush caused it. All the media has reported
that global warming, caused by Bush not signing the Kyoto deal, is
causing all these disasters.
All of us know the media is right (or is it left?) all the time.
Since this has all happened in the past 5 years, I wonder what caused
the icebergs around the Titanic (1912) to disappear before world war
II? I also read a few years ago that the ozone hole was going to
cause life on earth to disappear or some such. But nothing much about
it lately.
I wonder which Bush it was that caused the hurricane in Galveston
(8000 or so dead) in 1900? How the Spanish Galleons got ship wrecked
in all the calm seas of the 16-1700's? And for the biblical crowd,
what caused the great flood, but global warming? Where is all that
water now? In the Sahara Ocean?
All these questions without answers, I should be ashamed of myself.
Hach, hope you guys dry out soon. We've had our share floods in
northern California on about 10 year intervals, since the 1950's.
Thankfully they don't strike right where I live fully.
Did your area wait for FEMA to come tell you the storm was coming?
I've not heard a word from that whole region about the ineptitude of
the government.

We got flash floods when I was growing up in Florida, and the only really
bad hurricane was "Donna" when I was 2, back in 1960[color=blue]

I've not heard from my in-laws in MA, which scares me. Usually they call me

No, our local governments have been doing fine so far, although a Democrat
Senator in the state House said a week ago that Romney "doesn't even know
it rained". After that he was out here to have a look.
NH is dealing with it as best they can, they're still surveying the
damage. They got hit HARD!

If you're talking abotu Holyoke, they probably went out to dinner! There
was some localized flooding in Holyoke, but nothing drastic. Greenfield
and the north got it far worse, and Longmeadow and south into CT also.

Where are you at?
We don't get FSB anymore, we get a CBS channel from Springfield now.
Interesting; I'm wondering how two channels 20 miles apart can both
broadcast on 3????

After Hurricane Erin in '95 we had NINE INCHES of rain in TWO HOURS. I
will never see rain again like that I hope. My street at the time was
a good 12-18 inches deep, with islands of floating fire ants that bit
us while we were raking leaves and garbage away from the storm drains.
The water caused my Camry to conk out on the way home before it got
even deeper. Fortunately I got the nose up in someone's driveway so it
could dry out and it was fine the next day.
I'm in Granby, CT. Is your channel 3 the "Digital" version of WFSB? . I
figure there would be a lot of interference with two stations on the same
freq in proximity to one another.

Yeah, Holyoke - Greenfield is on the damned VT/MA border! That makes no

Yeah, it must be carried by the Cable company and not broadcast. I miss
WFSB.
I have lived in E. Windsr, Whorehou...er WAREhouse Point and New Britski,
as well as Southwick MA. Use to drive to work in Bloomfield every day back
