OT: Term 'freshman' banned at some local schools...

Seems the term 'freshman' is 'gender biased' so some schools in the area
have dropped it.

The PC term is First Year Student.

Can't have girls thinking they're boys now, can we?

My GOD this is getting out of hand!

Been goin' on for some time.

Draftsmen are now "drafters"

I get resumes from students looking for jobs and this term is on there.
Many of the resumes look the same, so I suspect they are actually typed by
their college's placement department.

Craftsmen are now "crafters"

Fishermen are now "fishers".

Funny story from up here:
Each spring there is an exhibition that is caled the "Toronto Sportsmen's
Show". Everything is there from camping/hunting/fishing equipment to RVs to
boats to ATVs.

One year a while back they tried giving it a PC name. Guess what?
NOBODY CAME. Nobody recognized that it was the same show, just under a
different name. It BOMBED.

The very next year they re-named it back to the "Sportsmen's Show",
attendance jumped back up to the usual levels, and nobody's ever mentioned
changing the name again.

One small victory...

I'll see if I can find it. I was listening to the news when I heard it,
and then heard it on the local radio while listening to Rush.

Of course, it's in Amherst, MA...you know, the town where you can't fly
the flag except for a week before and a week after a holiday...

First Year Students at Local High School are now Ninth Graders
AMHERST, MASSACHUSETTS (WWLP) - There are no freshmen at Amherst Regional
High School. Following in the steps of several area colleges, 9th-grader
is now the official term used for first-year students.

The other day the Speech Police (my wife) gave me a bunch of grief for
referring to one of our neighbors as "the guy who's crippled". It
seems this word is not allowed anymore in our politically correct
society.

That's because its rude. I had to walk with crutches and a cane for a
year when I was a teen, and I hated being called "crippled". It
infuriated me.

Why not say "the guy who walks with crutches" or something? You're a
smart guy -- without too much extra mental effort you can find another
way to say it. I hate it when people confuse mental effort with
political corectness.

You can say it, if you want to sound like an ass hole.

I've always preferred the more neutral "freshmammal", tho' I've heard
recently there are parts of Australia where that also is too limited.

The new, correct, term for human beings is: "Sapient Biped".

This term neatly avoids any hint of species-ist, racist, age-ist, sexist,
faith-ist, color-ist, height-ist, weight-ist, food-ist, hair-ist, shoe-ist
or anything else-ist terminology.

Unfortunately, it still discriminates against quadrupeds and other beings
with more than two legs. And since the concept of absolute truth is
officially in question, and since the concept of rational thought itself is
bound up with that prickly issue of those controversial
Dead White European Guys, I suppose the word "Sapient" might even be
objectional.

Therefore, the final, official, non-offensive, all-inclusive term for any
modern hominid is " ". Yes, that's " ".

How could anyone be offended by that? Wait, don't answer that question...
