Minority Leader (Democrat) Harry Reid, and probably also pushed by Laura
Bush.

I think Karl Rove is behind this. Offer the liberal female, the LLL's
reject, Bush then brings in the real conservative. They won't reject
the second choice for fear of great political cost in the 06 election.
