I had a similar problem, in my case it was because I have my network
set up to assign static IP addresses... so all I had to do is go into
the manual configuration and put in the network info for my computer.
At first I typed 192.169.x.x by mistake (instead of 192.168.x.x) and
the entire installation went down... so I started over, corrected that,
and within three hours Debian had downloaded the entire operating
system over the internet, and here I am in KDE 3.3.
Still can't get my dvd's to play, but its only a matter of time.

Maybe our buddy Menhaden would like to hook up with the deposed/former

Recalled Spokane mayor says he won't show up his last day
Friday, December 16, 2005
The Associated Press
Spokane Mayor Jim West says he doesn't plan to show up at City Hall for
his last day in office today.
Voters last week decided to remove West from office in a recall
election based on an allegation that he offered city jobs and perks to
young men in exchange for sex.

At a glance
Spokane Mayor Jim West's votes on gay-rights and human-rights issues:
# On Christmas Eve 1985, Gov. Booth Gardner signed an executive order
banning discrimination in state hiring based on sexual orientation.
West and 14 other Republicans responded by introducing a bill in
January 1986 that would have barred gay men and lesbians from working
in schools, day-care centers and some state agencies. The bill called
for screening prospective employees for sexual orientation and firing
state workers whose sexual identities became known. The bill failed.
# Also in 1986, West voted to bar the state from distributing pamphlets
telling people how to protect themselves from AIDS during sex.
# West opposed gay rights bills introduced in 1985 and 1987.
# In 1989, West opposed a proposal to expand a needle exchange program
to protect people from AIDS from Pierce County to the entire state.
# In 1990, as part of a bill on AIDS education, West proposed that teen
sex be criminalized. The bill, written by the abstinence group Teen
Aid, would have made sexual contact a misdemeanor for unmarried
teenagers under 18. Sexual contact was defined as "any touching of the
sexual or other intimate parts of a person" for sexual gratification.
# West voted in 1998 for the Defense of Marriage Act, which defined
marriage as between a man and a woman. Gov. Gary Locke vetoed the bill,
but the Legislature overrode his veto.
# As Senate majority leader, West and other Republicans in 2003 bottled
up the gay-rights bill in committee and it died.
# As Spokane's incoming mayor in November 2003, West said he's opposed
to extending City Hall benefits to domestic partners, citing the cost.
In April 2005, the City Council approved domestic partner benefits in a
5-2 vote, enough to withstand a mayoral veto.

The server may have a slow upload themselves. Other factors are
possible also, like many other users trying to download at the same
time from the Linux distributor.

Linux sucks. Mounting/unmounting drives is insane. The inability to
view common graphics/video files unless jumping through hoops makes it
very un-user friendly.

Not to mention that when one downloads an entire operating system, that's
about half a gigabyte to begin with. And if one includes updates and
optional features, that means even more data to download. Even at the
ISP's top download speed, 3 hours is realistic.

Actually, mounting and unmounting of drives can be done automatically in
the more recent flavours of Linux, and there are plenty of imaging/video
apps available that support most if not all formats.
