OT College Dems on "The Grinch Who Stole Student Loans"

The Grinch Who Stole Student Loans

Washington, DC- This morning the Republican-led Senate voted to cut
over $12 billion in student loans from the federal budget, the largest
cut to student aid in history. The controversial 51-50 vote was sealed
by none other than Vice President Cheney who cut short a trip to the
Middle East to cast the tie-breaking vote. The final bill was so
controversial that five Republicans broke rank to vote with every
single Democrat in opposition to the bill.

Republicans claim the bill will balance the budget, but the bill would
in fact add to the already huge deficit that they are leaving to the
next generation to pay. Although Republicans claim that the budget is
strapped for cash, they still plan to pass huge new tax cuts for the
wealthiest Americans-using student loan funding to pay for it. The
$12 billion cut was part of a larger $40 billion package which also cut
Medicaid and food stamps.

"Before going home for the holidays, Senate Republicans joined their
Republican House colleagues in leaving college kids out in the cold in
order to give gifts to their rich pals," said College Democrats
President Grant Woodard. "This is akin to parents stealing their kid's
Christmas presents and then sending them the bill. Together, America
can do better than a Congress that passes their debts to the next
generation while cutting funding for education. Republicans should join
Democrats in working to provide a better future for America's youth."

Just to clairify how much more money will be spent this year on the Student Loan program after you substract the 12 was cut from what the 1973 Budget called to be spent this year. You see the 1973 budget act mandates spending increases every year. All that happen was the they only cut 12 million from what is mandated by the act.

Yep, had this happen to me in the 80's by Reagan, and the reason, to cut
the people out with parents who made more money. No doubt, they did it
again. Sure don't hear any complaining about that, sticking it to the
rich by not letting their kids get loans so they can pay their own way
through school. And why should you, rich elitist, liberals have already
made their fortunes and sheltered it. I expect most would even be lucky
to keep up with the dedicated Christians who donate 10%+ of their
income, not to mention what the government takes. Of course, when
Liberals give a lot, you usually hear about it because their treasure is
here on this earth and they need to brag about themselves.

Yep. The evil, selfish Neocons are in charge now, and they're
grabbing all the money that they can. F*ck the middle class and the
poor. F*ck the children, who will inherit the debt...

Borrow money so we can give the rich another tax cut! Yah!!!

You are so stupid. Man, I mean really stupid. Part of what the cut
are student loans. So, "Liberals" (such as myself) who ARE willing to
take on more debt to put family members through college (such as my
wife) have to struggle that much harder to get an education.

Come here, let me smack you really hard.

Awwwww.... poor baby. Why do Liberals always think that someone else
should pay for them?

It must be awful to be envious of everyone who has some financial
success and try to constantly empty their pockets. Isn't that the
practical definition of socialism?

Just yesterday, Bush signed over $60 MILLION for L.A.s homeless problem.
I thought to myself, "Man, that's a buttload of money." Then, the story
goes to Villaragosa, the new DEMOCRATIC mayor, bitching how $60 MILLION
was a drop in the bucket and won't be enough for the problem.

What the hell does he want to give these people?? A swank condo in one
of the many new highrises?? $60 MILLION sounds like it should go a long
way in helping the problem. I guess when you factor in CORRUPTION on
each side of the aisle, you get your answer on where the money will go.

New Orleans and the levy debacle jumps to mind...

Sometimes you're so incredibly, undeniably stupid that I cannot ignore
you.

I was talking about student loans, you fucking moron.

I doubt you have any "financial success" anyway, you're too dumb.

You couldn't "define" your way out of a paper bag. When are you going
to kill yourself?

I take that back. You probably do have "financial success", your
parents'. You are completely and demonstrably incapable of doing
anything that would bring any significant reward or compensation.

I can't stand trust fund babies who brag. You, Mark, are a typical
Pussy.

it is a drop in the bucket. Its about .1% of what we've spent in iraq.

You're a moron too. Aren't you late for your shift at Wendy's?

Why do republicans think it's ok to steal?

Face it, both demos and republicans need to be replaced by
independents.

It is. Bush gives billions back to the rich in tax cuts and you don't
say a word. Why is that?[color=blue]

oops, its not even that much:

$ perl -e 'printf("%.04f\%\n", (60000000/450000000000)*100)'

0.0133%

so, 60 million is about .0133%, or one ten thousandth, of what we've
spent so far in Iraq.
