Installed a TC supercharger today

TRD has been talking about releasing a kit for the TC for the longest time,
and its finally out. For the tidy little price of $3200 american bucks
(plus 6.5 hours of labor)!!!! And we'll see you in about 40k miles for a
new clutch, and about 15k miles for new front tires. Haha. And, don't
forget to use premium fuel from now on, either.
It was a fun installation, though (the test drive was probably more
fun), everything fits together well as you would imagine a TRD kit would.
The warranty also remains, which is important. But talk about a tight fit.
Christ I feel bad for the next guy that has to change an air filter or find
anything on left side of the engine through all that plumbing.
Anyway, since i've seen a few threads about it I thought Id post and let
people know there are little blown TCs running around out there.

Hmmmmm........


I think the stock HP rating is 160. How many # of boost, and any idea what
the final HP is?

Hey crapsack, I am a TECHNICIAN who installed the UNIT on another PERSONS
car. Way to give your POST a nice STACATTO by capitaliZATION, though. Ya
dink.

The boost rating is not mentioned, but I would figure it can't be much more
than 8lbs. As for the final HP rating, TRD claims 200. Feels about as fast
as the new Avalon, but it's hard to say because front drive open-diff cars
have a hard time getting the juice to the ground.

Nope, no intercooler. Probably why the install kit comes with a thermostat
that opens 15C degrees earlier.

15C Earlier???? If it had a 190 degree F thermostat, that means it is
opening at like 165 degrees F. Doesn't that screw up the PCM? I thought the
goal was to get things up to temperature and into closed loop mode as
quickly as possible. Most modern cars I am familiar with would run like crap
if you ran them that cool. Seems to me that most people aren't going to be
on the boost most of the times, so you are really likely to have a car
running way to cool to be efficient.

No, the reason it comes with that thermostat is because of the extra heat
that the compressed air adds to the engine. Has to have the extra time to
get rid of it, so it ends up still running at the same temp as before. As
far the the ECM, it gets reprogrammed as part of the package.

Doing the same to my 2003 4runner. The TRD Supercharger is $3600 and like
$500 for the install. Going to give me 120 more HPs and 120 more FT LBS of
torque...

but... there is still a possibility I will just say screw it and buy a brand
new Dodge Challenger when it comes out in 2007 and just use that as my speed
toy....
