King of the Car World in '06

http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/dec2005/nf20051221_8872_db039.htm?chan=gb

the Japanese auto giant will bump up production by 10% in 2006, to more
than 9 million vehicles -- increasing the likelihood that Toyota (TM )
will surpass General Motors (GM ) as the world's largest auto maker in
the next 12 months

GM made 9.2 million 2005 but will likely be less than 9 million 2006
and then Toyota will be numero uno

There was an article in today's WSJ on how Japanese are picking up the slack
for everyone laid off in Detroit, by hiring in states like Alabama,
Mississippi, etc.

However, I think GM will rebound. Since I purchased the new C6 corvette two
weeks ago, I am amazed at how well that car is put together. I think GM is
beginning to get it - maybe a little late, but they are impressing me.

When their alternators start lasting 100k miles then you know they are
serious about quality.

With GM I think there is the Corvette and everything else.

Dealer already replaced the alternator in my 2005 Sienna with 7k miles on it
:)

Had DENSO all over it too...

I would hope they can build a decent car for $50K+. They dump a hell of
a lot of effort into the 'Vette. When they start consistently building
something decent in the $20-25K range, then we'll talk GM "quality".
