What difference does it make?

Good sedan but a bit boring despite the sporty engine. Good choice
nonetheless if you're looking for a quick sedan with very good gas
mileage.
If you want something more interesting to drive, test drive the Matrix
XRS too.

If you can pull yourself free from group-think long enough for a test drive,
you'll find the Mazda3 is much more fun than any Corolla or Corolla based
whatever.

Corolla beats Mazda3 in fuel economy and reliability, if those are concerns
to the OP.

My son's new 2006 Black Corolla S is a damned nice ride. Got over 40
mpg on the second tank, too.

Check the thread, the OP was taking about fun:
"seriously considering a corolla XRS for a fun car."
Twist-beam rear-end <> fun(period).
The Mazda is every bit as reliable as any Corolla, by any measure. In fact,
if reliability's a concern, the OP might want to Google XRS and clutch for
some interesting reading. As to economy, clutches are wear items and
expensive to replace. The Mazda gets excellent fuel efficiency when driven
easily *and* it's a *fun* car to drive. I'd suggest *you* try one.
thanks for the thoughts.
i am running an echo, and don't laugh.
i run the piss out of it and it just seems to get better plus i get a real
40 mpg
even now with a 100,000 miles on it.

No laughing. The Echos are good cars for their market. If that's
your milieu, there's no better car to get.

Read the specs: you only really get the 170 HP when it's about 3 RPM
away from flying apart!
WWWAAAAAAAHHHH.... I'll bet you need earplugs and a vibration pad to
enjoy the extra horsepower.
yes, and as the owner/builder of a turbine powered motorcycle, i appreciate
your comment.
i understand tho, that they are taking regular redlinings well.
the stroke has been shortened and the bore bigger.
actually, it's a different engine block assy. altogether.
thanks again, sammm
