Clintoon gave them most favored nation status, ask him.

"Welcome to President Clinton, Mrs. Clinton, and my fellow astronauts."
foreign car makers are not hurting US car companies. We're not handing
China anything. Whoever builds the best cars is going to win. Engine
building is not a military secret. Car assembly is not classified. How
many cars will china need in the years to come? 10 million a year? Let's be
part of that and sell them 1 million cars a year. Make them the best
design, best built and most durable possible. Make them clean burning and
comfortable. And then revamp our production here in the US to be the envy
of every Toyota and Nissan plant.
Maybe we should build car parts again and start exporting the that huge
Chinese demand for new cars.

He also allowed sales of advanced missle technology, but everyone seems to
forget that.

In the grand scheme fo things...
What difference does it make?

Confusing, eh? Maybe we gripe because things we've done at our level has
come around and bit us in the ass. How many times have we regretted telling
a secret to a close friend at work and it came back to haunt us? Maybe it's
different between country and country.
A few hundred years from now none of this will make any difference.
Regrettably, communism will trump democracy because there will be too many
people for too few jobs. Democracy won't work on the Moon, nor any
spaceships heading towards who-knows-where.
Don't believe there will be a Federation of Planets either unless the
Chinese have a population on the dark side of the moon which will eventually
become Romulans or Vulcans.
I'm just joking about all of this. I don't even know what tomorrow will
bring.

You do know that labor costs in China are only about 1/10 they are in the
US, right?

Don't blame Clinton. Your buddy Tricky Dick Nixon is the guy who was
sipping tea with chairman Mao. Its all his fault.

Apparently it is un-republican to fire a cab member even after they've
shown to be not worth a shit.
