7-AFE Engine

I would like to change the coolant. I HAVE found the coolant outlet at
at the bottom of the radiator, but where is the outlet valve located on
the engine block? My Haynes manual doesn't indicate that. Does anyone
know?

I've never seen a coolant drain on the engine block in a Toyota. AFAIK, the
only drain is on the radiator.

I haven't done it in a few years, but IIRC its in the front of the engine
near the oil filter. I also think its my Corolla that has the 1/2" square
drive in the cap so you put a socket wrench with 8" extension straight
into the nut, but that could be my wife's Honda.

Ray, I'm surprised at you here.

As far as I know, *all* Toyota blocks have at *least* one drain. (Do the
V6s have two?)

My old T-series engines all had one, as did my sister's Celicas, our MR2
and my wife's current Tercel.

We always had Haynes manuals for our car when we could get them. They
showed where the engine block drain was.

Since most places frown upon the practice of letting coolant flow down the
driveway or into drains, I just take our vehicles into the local Toyota
dealer and let them do the job for us.

In the early years of owning Toyotas in the South, we weren't so lucky.
The 'Toyota' dealer was a GM dealer that had merely picked up another line.
Had no real idea how to work on them. So we had to learn all this stuff
ourselves.

I left behind a collection of every factory repair manual for Toyota sold in
the U.S. from 1983 through 1993. I suppose I should have kept them :-(

In 1980, the 'Toyota' dealer adjusted the valves on Dad's 2T-C engine.
Cracked one of the valves because he adjusted them too tight.(We drove it
that way for 18 more years and 180,000 miles.) In 1981, I had the 'Toyota'
dealer in a different town try to sell me $600 worth of repairs on my 3K-C
because it was using oil. They were trying to tell me it needed a ring job.
That was at 48,000 miles and the old mechanical lifters had never been
adjusted. I had brought it in to get the lifters properly adjusted. This
dealer later lost his Toyota franchise and his son had to 'leave town',
also. When I went to college, the nearest Toyota dealer was up in Hot
Springs. He was OK, but I couldn't leave the car there for any repairs
because I had NO other way of getting around at that point. Being an older
college student has its disadvantages.
