OT Who is John Galt? (oops...)

And I'm wondering if I will be working here at all after today...

When I was at GE someone said we had to have stuff ready for Gary Stevens
staff.
I asked, Who is Gary Stevens?
He was the President of the Plastics Division.

Have you ever heard of Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand?
All through the book there are references to "Who is John Galt?

<SNIP>

* The question "Who is John Galt?
Who is John Galt" is asked repeatedly throughout Atlas Shrugged
Later into the book we learn that John Galt is the man who stopped
the motor of the world and the leader of the Strikers. He is also
the same character as the Mystery Worker.

The son of an Ohio garage mechanic, Galt left home at age 12 and
began college at Patrick Henry University at age 16. There he
befriended Francisco d'Anconia and Ragnar Danneskjöld, all three
of whom double-majored in physics and philosophy. They were the
cherished students of the brilliant scientist Robert Stadler
and the brilliant philosopher Hugh Akston.

After graduating, Galt became an engineer at the Twentieth Century Motor
Works where he designed a revolutionary new motor powered by ambient
static electricity with the potential to change the world.
<SNIP>

So I get a call from John Galt from Panavision. He wants to talk to Bob J.
I ask, what if I said, "Who is John Galt"? He said, "I'd tell you to stop
it!

He then told me his kids had a license plate frame made up that says "Who is
Ayn Rand?"

It is always good to do a little background of the people you are talking
to.
I thought Mr. Galt was a Salesman...

Mr. Galt is:
John Galt,
Senior Vice President, Advanced Digital Imaging
Panavision

OOPS!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like something he's heard before, and judging that he kicked
back an Ayn Rand reference of his own he can understand your reaction.
Better yet, he knows you read Ayn Rand - I wouldn't know John Galt
from Moses. Now Zaphod Beeblebrox, on the other hand...

I wouldn't freak over it - a new hire usually doesn't go out and
memorize all the names of the Executives.

One of the LA City Building & Safety building inspectors I deal with
occasionally is Howard Stern. And he gets double-takes all day, every
day...

Sounds like HachiRoku could use a Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster?

Either that or he's starting to sound like Agent 86. "Sorry about that,
Chief."

BTW, Trivia. Can anyone tell me why the two main agents at CONTROL were 86
and 99?

Interesting. You didn't strike me as the Zaphod Beeblebrox type!
And I never owned a Ford Prefect, either...

Welcome to 'Low Man on Totem Pole' status - and if you haven't
figured it out yet, that isn't as easy a position to fill as you
think. You have to key into the comings and goings to do it well.

It should be one of the highest paid jobs in a company.

Done well.....the company looks great.

LOL! I basically have two jobs: the software used company wide is a home
brew written by some programmers in India.
It is full of holes.
So, in trying to plug the holes, I enter the orders for the company.
*ALL* the orders for the company.
If I'm not entering orders, *NO* orders are being entered.
We've already solved about 2 dozen major problems, and I've been there
since Thanksgiving.
The guy before me was there 15 months. (And you can see why he's NOT there
any more!)
