OT GAO -- Customs Failed 'Dirty Bomb' Test (would DPW have caught this 'un?)

Congressional investigators testing U.S. port security smuggled enough
radioactive material into the United States last year to make two
radiological "dirty" bombs, officials told a Senate panel yesterday.

I went through Customs in Atlanta last week and can certainly
understand how these people were duped into allowing the material to
get through. I was ashamed to admit to my fellow foreign travellers
that these TSA people were our first line of defense. It felt like I
was at the Post Office, if you know what I mean...
However, the article also stated that the trace amounts of radioactive
material were detected by the sensors so that is some good news. At
least the technology is there, if we could just get some accountable
competent contractors instead of unionized government workers who stand
around scratching their asses we may be in better shape.

The Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard are all government
workers. Are they idiots, too?

No, they are Armed Forces. I differentiate between Armed Forces and
Civil Service.

The lady that caught the bombs from Canada heading for the west coast a few
years ago was a government employee. So is the cop and fireman who might
save your life someday.
