OT 196* Hertz GT 350H Cherry

While attending a model railroad train show in St Petersburg FL (H and
R Trains) I noticed a cherry black 1965/6 Hertz GT 350H at a auto
repair shop next door.

I was taking pictures of the beast and a mechanic came out.

He explained that the owner wanted to turn it into a DRAG CAR....what
a horrible thing to do.

He and I were crying in our beer remembering the 'good old days' of
the Shelby Mustangs.

Can you BELIEVE Hertz actually rented these animals?

ahhhhhhhhhhhhh the good old days!

They sure did! And it was the REAL "Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday"!!
Guys would rent them, spot weld in roll bars and go to the drags! Then,
break the welds, replace the carpets and bring'em back.

They also had a two speed rear end, IIRC there was a lever next to the
driver's seat to select the ratio!
