{OT} nbc trying to create news

http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/news/story?seriesId=2&id=2398619

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- NASCAR said it was "outrageous" that "Dateline NBC"
targeted one of its race tracks last weekend for a possible segment on
anti-Muslim sentiment in the United States.

NASCAR said NBC confirmed it was sending Muslim-looking men to a race,
along with a camera crew to film fans' reactions. The NBC crew was
"apparently on site in Martinsville, Va., walked around and no one
bothered them," NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said Wednesday.

"It is outrageous that a news organization of NBC's stature would stoop
to the level of going out to create news instead of reporting news,"
Poston said.

"Any legitimate journalist in America should be embarrassed by this
stunt. The obvious intent by NBC was to evoke reaction, and we are
confident our fans won't take the bait," he said.

NASCAR is in the final year of a broadcasting agreement with NBC Sports.

"'Dateline' is looking into this story," NBC said in a statement. "We
were intrigued by the results of a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll
and other articles regarding increasing anti-Muslim sentiments in the
United States.

"It's very early on in our newsgathering process, but be assured we
will be visiting a number of locations across the country and are
confident that our reporting team is pursuing this story in a fair
manner," it said.

Would be interesting to film the filmers and see what the "news" is
doing to try to agitate anyone.

It is called, 'Making News.' The major media is (in)famous for doing just
that.

NBC couldn't get real Muslims to go along with this farce?

Well if you want to go to an event where there's a bunch of dull-minded
racists, that would be a damn good place to start.

That's what they thought and it sure back-fired on them. Your kind are
the biggest racists around. Just go back and read some of your posts
lately.

I think you should go to Kannapolis NC and say that in a local bar...

That would be funny.

Why would I do that?

Oh, why? I'm not like you Scott. I don't need guns and big talk to
know what I'm about. You do.

Funny story (well not funny haha)...

So this friend of ours from Bangladesh lost his job at Johns Hopkins...
the funding ran out for the cancer research project he was working on.
This guy is a well-published PhD clinical researcher...

So, he has to come up with $4000.00 for a lawyer, and something like 15
letters of reference from leaders in his field, to prove that he is of
exceptional value or whatever. AND, he has to get someone to sponsor
an H1-B visa while he waits for his green card.

I offered to loan him part of the money, and I contacted a couple of
people to see how I could help.

This guy hardly speaks English, mind you... only been here for a couple
of years. He made a meager salary for the kind of work he did at JHU,
as well...

SO.........

I called him about a week after all of this went down... I had given
him a couple of INS lawyers numbers that I had found (but no cash -- he
hadn't asked yet), etc etc....

and he tells me, "Oh, I have retained a lawyer, and I have almost all
of the letters I need now... and I have found a job with a
pharmaceutical company doing research..."

Point? He used his good-old American Can-Do-It attitude to wrap up his
problem. Take note "laissez faireists" and "individualists", this is
personal responsibility in action.

Well he has his visa sponsor now, and he, his wonderful wife, and their
great kid are on their way to becoming naturalized. Good for the
USA... we need more citizens like this.

And.... damn, its tough to get a green card ain't it?
