drive shafts and clutch cylinders and transmissions (and an ugly gm) oh my!
So...
Last month, when doing a complete cat back exhaust repl. on the 92
accord, we discovered that one of my drive shafts was probably almost
gone. So... I swapped them with two really nice rebuilt units.
OK so the Honda, with 218k miles, is running like new.
I'm headed back from lunch Friday, and the 95 Toyota Corolla, with 112k
miles, decides it doesn't wanna shift anymore. I treat her like the
bitch she is, and in so doing I probably broke one of the shift
forks..... that turned into a 40 mile tow back to the burbs of
columbia...
so we've replaced the master and slave clutch cylinders, and I just
bought a 5 spd tranny to put on the little whore hopefully by Friday.
Meanwhile I'm driving one of those Chevy HHRs that has blind spots the
size of Mike Kunt's ass.... rental unit, pretty cheap actually...
We'll see how the new old ass tranny does... All this for about 1k,
not so bad.

I didn't think the blind spots were bad. I don't know anything about Mike's
ass; seems you're better informed there than I...
But the think was so UNDERPOWERED! My God, was that thing horrible!
And as far as the blind spost, I didn't think they were bad at all...but
then again my last couple cars were a '90 240SX and the '88 Supra. Open the
dictionary and look up "blind spot"...

Yeah I should've said Mike Kunt's HEAD.

Eh... honestly its no worse than my Toyota with its screaming 1.6l.
The difference is the tranny... who in the hell thought of putting an
automatic with that wind up engine?

I sit up high. The windshield is way too small as well.

Its fun driving a new car, but outside of that novelty, I can't wait to
get back into my little Toyota. I do prefer being closer to the
road...
One more big expenditure on that thing, and its time for a new one.

We got the tranny installed (we=I paid+mechanic worked) and now, the
gear ratio seems to be a lot lower. Higher RPMs in every gear (no
tach, its a base model), lower shift point. Makes the care much more
responsive in the city, and it accelerates to 80 mph a lot faster ...
but it holds nicer at 65 mph, and burns gas faster at 80 than it did
before. It also passes the 5th gear test (holds 5th around 45 mph
going uphill with no addl gas pedal) which is amazing.
Thoughts on why the gear ratio would be different?

The transmission was from a different model year or model.
