Prius SE/SS remote fob won't porgram

If you think you've seen this post before, you're right - - it was on
4/2/06. The very patient person from whom I bought the first remote fob sent
me another, specifically from a new 06 Prius, direct from Japan, but it,
too, failed to program to my car. I had to know if there was something wrong
with my Prius, so I let them take one out of service parts ($200.77 parts,
$80.00 labor, $16.56 tax) and try it. I'm tempted to put an "of course" in
front of the result, but that would be wrong - - all this couldn't possibly
be a deliberate series of purposeful events designed to extract $297.33 from
this foolish purchaser of Ebay stuff. Okay, maybe that is what happened, but
I tend to think there is something about a pre-committed fob that disables
the programming of a different Prius to accept it. Maybe the thing has to be
reset to a receptive state - - I looked intently at the innards you see when
you put in a new battery, and there was no reset button or pad or anything.
Maybe if I had removed the battery and shorted the terminals so as to
completely turn off the "rolling code" process and start again from zero - -
maybe that might have resulted in the used device working in the new
vehicle - - I don't know - - I leave it to experts to decide if such a thing
is really necessary. All I know is my 05 Prius won't accept a remote
transmitter that has been programmed to a different vehicle. If anyone has
been successful in doing this with their 04 - 06 Prius, I would really like
to know - - was it a personal friend who conducted the programming? I have
seen posts where the used fob was partially enabled, but not fully
enabled - - Ebay shoppers should be told that this is the best that they can
expect, and the worst will be frustration until you come up with the full
fare.
