Re: Chyrsler To Build Overseas and Toyota Builds In America - DCX Not American, Toyota Is
Here's some facts on this issue. Though for GM, and not DCX, they make
the point.
The U.S. Labor Statistics 2004 ALA report says that for
each 100 vehicles sold, GM is supporting 23.4 jobs while the Japanese
companies are supporting only 14.5 N. American jobs. How could that
be? While Toyota 'assembles' vehicles here, they are made in Japan,
with parts made from Japanese suppliers, designed and engineered by
Japanese employees. When you purchase a Japanese (or German or Korean)
vehicle, you are supporting their infrastructures, not North America's.
North American parts content of GM vehicles is 82%, while Toyota is
only 41%.
