Hmmm...I called the guy and gave him the number of a friend of mine who is
a BMW nut, and called and left a message myself.
So, while I was in the neighborhood, I thought I'd check and see if the
thing was still there. Yup. My friend never called, and I was only the 2nd
person in a month to look at it!!
It's not bad, but not good. It has some rust starting to eat away at it,
but not bad considering the 'vintage'. Still reworkable, although there
was some perforation in the door, and a bad Bondo job in the Pass rear 1/4
that need some attention.
Unfortunately, the ignition wiring is phupped duck and it doesn't start.
The guy is thinking about getting a new ignition, a 1 day delay from BMW.

I had one of those in Spain many moons ago.
Cost 2771 new.
It was a BALL to drive, especially in the mountains

If you can afford to restore it, you afford to buy brand new one. I don't
think you can afford either.
My friend just bought a '76 Tii. What a cool car. That kugelfischer can be
tempermental. It took us a LONG time to get the system dialed in, but once
there that little engine screams. There is a guy in San Fran that used to
work for Bosch in Germany for about 100 years, and has managed to amass
all the discontinued parts for these injection pumps. For $300 bucks you
get a rebuild and tuning on this wacky injection dyno that Bosch made in
the 70s for dialing in these pumps. Pretty cool.

I can do body work and the car is basically sound. Just want to hear it
run...

I *think* this one is a 4 speed. It looks OK, needs some serious TLC, but
is a better than average starting point.
If one could hear it 'run' it would not be $500 LOL

Scott I ran my '71 Pinto in a hill climb race in the Poconos and beat all of
the BMW 2002 for the best time. The owner of the BMW that held the record
for several years was jumping up and down hollering 'It a Pinto I can't
believe I was beaten by a damn Pinto' My record for 2000 CC sedans still
stands. When it comes to racing many times it is the guy with the most
balls, not the most car that wins. The only driver I even met with more
balls than me was when I raced with Mario on the old Nazareth dirt track
We always said Mario always finished in one of three position. Blown
engine/tranny, smashed, or WINNER. LOL

I speak from experience. If the body is in great shape but the motor and
transmission, etc., need work, it is an old car that can be brought back
within reason. Once the body starts to rust significantly, run do not walk
away from the deal unless you are very rich or nuts.
(Having restored over 20 190SL's 300SL's, 356, 912, 911 and various BMW's
over the years). Don't do that any longer, I now have a life.

LOL! I went back to have another look.
This is about a $5000 repair job, and that's just the body.
Can't start the thing cause the ignition switch went bad.
I let a friend know about it. He's a BMW nut.
We'll see what he says.
I have enough Rust Problems sitting in my backyard already!
