OTOH, my '84 liftback Corolla was my most favorite car so far. Since then
I've owned 3 more Corollas - although they ceased making liftbacks. My
current Corolla isn't exciting, but it's solid, was value for the price, &
does what it's supposed to do. OTOH, I had wanted a Prius last time I car
shopped - but couldn't get one, so that may well be why I consider this
present ('04) Corolla to be relatively boring, but suits my purposes. Plus,
I hate its upholstery. That's a big factor - minor thing, but big aesthetic
impact, AFAIC. I can't figutre it out: when this car - the first year of
the new generation - came out, articles raved about its spruced-up interior,
how muvch nicer it was than previous Corollas. Ha. I liked the
interior/upholstery of my '98 LE better, & that of my '90 the best. (The
interior of my '84 was plain, but the car in general was really great.) I'm
rambling...

There's an ancient Chinese curse, "May you live in interesting times."
:-)
I actually like having a car that is boring. It just always starts and
always takes me to work and back. No excitement involving tow trucks
or auto mechanics.
I don't even really care what the outside of the car looks like. My
philosophy is that, when I'm actually using the car, I can't see an
awful lot of the outside. So if I buy a car based on looks, I'm really
buying it for other people to look at.
"Exciting" cars may also be more exciting to car thieves or more
noticed by the police.
One of my friends used to soup up cars. He even owned a speed shop at
the time. His cars were always very fast and had fancy paint jobs.
They were so exciting that he had to keep tuning up the engines and he
had to park them way out in the boonies so that he wouldn't get people
opening their doors into the middle of his expensive mural on the side
of the car.
They were so exciting that they were ruling his life.
