Why not? Because this is a toyota ng and there are plenty of
political ng's.

You are not the first to wonder about this. One consolation: the
real obsessives, most of whom babble prejudiced gibberish, end up
abusing each other, which seems fitting. And can be kill-filed.
I admit to sticking my oar in now and then. It is hard to resist
taking the mickey out of some of the nonsense. <g> But people on
this NG react is weird ways. Eg: a few days ago I posted an item
on how biodiesel was being tested in a UK trawler, my point being
to show how the new outlook on fuel types was spreading and could
be expected to impact cars soon enough. But some dim bulb failed
to make the connection -- maybe tagging "The deep green sea" with
"{OT}" triggered some particularly unintelligent cluster of brain
cells in him/her, because that person tried to email it to my ISP
as an example of Usenet abuse. But he/she sent it to me instead.
(I had a good laugh and threw it away.)
I assume that this same fanatic is also emailing all of the truly
OT political items to various ISPs. So you can keep hoping for a
content-pure and totally on-topic NG, any century now.

Indeed. From Friday afternoon to this morning, the server reported it
had 570+ messages in this group. Filters removed 320 of them.
Updating filters took care of another hundred or so.

I wasn't aware that you were the King of alt.autos.toyota
Here this will keep it on-topic: Go suck on a toyota exhaust pipe.

alt.* groups are free-for-all groups. A moderated alt.* group is like
trying to have sex with your pants on. Anyone who has a problem with
the off-topic banter come see me in my office.

I was pondering that myself then one day I tired of reading about oil
change intervals so I started reading the political writings of some of
the more profound authors here on this NG. I found their argument so
compelling that I just had to join in. Otherwise I could have just
filtered them out, but that would have been the easy way out. If you
have anything about the 04 Sienna I'd be interested.

Hes not the kink of A.A.T., just a sensible voice lost in the OT
babble. As ive said before, the only people who argue politics on here
are those whos points woudlnt stand up for 2 mins in a political NG so
they need another stage where people bite. Some of them are actually
usedful and fairly intelligent too, and contribute on the car side also
:)

I never tire of reading oil change intervals <g>
But in all honesty if you posted car oil change intervals to
alt.political.discussion group (doesnt exist BTW) you'd be moaned and
shouted out of town. Possibly because you were posting to a group that
doesnt exist, but also because you'd be equally off-topic and its
equally stupid to post it there.

That's it in a nutshell - though I think there are way too many OT posts
here.

hence the alt. in front of the newsgroup title.

Have you been to the political NG's? A bunch of whackos that make this
group look like Meet The Press.
