"W" promised to be the "Uniter" if elected in 2000. It appears he has made
good finally. Liberals, Conservatives, Democrats, Republicans, Neocons,
Henry Kissenger, Barry McCaffery and many others all seem agreed: George's
handling of the Iraq War is a debacle and that he might as well put a fork
in that turkey known as "Stay the Course", it is all done.

Thanks again, the magazine arrived about an hour ago. Quindlin was
interesting on the Administration's hubris in thinking it was omnipotent in
domestic and foreign matters. Americans don't seem to tolerate political
extremes for long, going back to John Adams and the Alien and Sedition Acts
and their short life span as example #1.
Her Quotes from FDR and George W's Philosophical shakiness might make for a
radical change in George W's political orientation these last two years. Be
interesting to see what Dad--er, I mean the Baker Commission has to say to
him. I notice he has scheduled a meeting w/ Maliki for 11/299/06 ?

Mine arrived yesterday & I was at home on sick leave, so had time to read
it. I usually find A. Quindlen's takes on issues interesting, & able to get
right to the heart of the matter. She had a couple of great (IMO) articles
on education - teaching itself, & NCLB/over-testing a while ago.
Basically the same as anything else, I think: the pendulum eventually swings
too far in one direction, bashes into the side of the clock case, & so
starts to swing back the other way. Too bad it hardly ever remains in the
center for long...

I'm amazed that Dad (er...) has kept his mouth shut (at least publicly -
have no clue re: privately) for this long. I didn't vote for GeorgeHWB.,
but he looks like Mr. Sanity Himself in contrast w/ GWB. Yes, re: mtg.,
although I don't remember the date - thought it was sooner, for some reason.
