Overall, the wartime recruits are more similar than dissimilar to
their civilian counterparts. The all-volunteer force displays near
proportional rep*resentation of income backgrounds. Whites serve in
approximate proportion to their population, although representation of
minority groups varies. Recruits must meet educational standards, and
the military provides resources for furthering educa*tion to those who
might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend four-year colleges.
Although rural representation is disproportional, the military offers
the opportunity to gain new skills and enter industries that are not
available in rural areas.

This sort of says it all.....
Jared scored 43 out of 99 on the Army's basic entrance exam -- 31 is lowest
grade the Army allows for enlistment, military officials said.
Not lowering standards? Why will the Army allow someone who scores this
low on an entrance exam enter the service?
I imagine that next, the service will test applicants by shining a
flashlight in one ear, and if they can't see the light by looking in the
other ear, they're IN!

A strong military? Is that why we are having to send our National Guard
members and Reserve members on their second and third tours? Our military
is about one-fifth the size it should be for the size of our nation and the
imminent threats against it that exist today. We may have the best Air
Force, but there are too few boots on the ground.

Let's see... people to the left of center (but somehow no one to the right
of center??) heard on news sources - no matter which ones listened to at any
given time, since they were all reporting the same thing - for months upon
months that the military was having a difficult time meeting their quotas
for new recruits, & were falling short of their goals. After that, the news
sources also reported that the age limits had been upped & the testing
requirements lowered for new recruits, in order to allow more people to join
the military.
So... that makes liberals (or I assume, moderate liberals, since that's a
more accurate despription of where I am on the spectrum) haters of the
military, & wrong, to boot.
I somehow fail to follow your particular & rather unique, not to mention
strange, line of logic.
