Scion xBox - Hey Don Fearn...

One of your fellow xBox enthusiasts nearly caused an accident at two
intersections this past Friday.

First he swooped across four lanes (solid white and yellow lines), then
darted in and out of traffic, including up a blind hill, where he nearly had
a head-on with a semi. The yutz ended up right beside me, despite a huge
lead (he was speeding like a maniac)

Aside from cursing his very existence, I remember thinking, 'damn, that
thing handles pretty well.'

Then I cursed *you* for brainwashing me!

LOL

I'm still not getting one of those fugly things.

Natalie

Yeah, there are idiots everywhere. I blame Nascar for making everyone
think he's the reincarnation of Dale Earnhardt...

Probably better that guy get an xB than an Excursion!

As for the looks, my wife agrees with your assessment.

Which, IMO, is *way* better looking/cuter than a Scion xB! To me, it looks
like those boxy jobs must be fighting against the air on a continual basis.

Heh, heh, heh . . . .

That reminds me of a vanity plate on a Harley that I used to see
regularly when I was taking my son to taekwando lessons:

DONOR

>You must have a death wish!

So far, the only things that have actually threatened my life have
been an appendicitis attack and a car crash. I had the appendix
removed, but I continue to drive. Does that mean I have a death
wish??!!??

No, I have a wish to live life and enjoy it while I can. Motorcycling
makes me feel alive like no other thing I've done (maybe that just
means I haven't tried enough things in my life). It can be risky, but
everything I do is a risk of one sort or another. What I try to do is
manage the risks in my life so that I'm likely to survive to an old
age. If that doesn't happen, well, I've enjoyed the ride anyway.

My pregnant roller skate thanks you.

I wondered about the aerodynamics of the xBox, the Element, etc. You'd
think there would be a lot of resistance, but maybe because the chassis is
so low, it keeps the ride steady. Don could tell you more about that, I'm
sure!

You'll never sell me on those things - you're just too vulnerable.

Of course you have the right to do what you'd like, as long as it's legal,
but those things are just too frightening for this girl. But then, so is
skydiving, bungee-jumping, etc...

Tell it "You're welcome", and that it was not mere idle flattery, but a true
statement. ;-)

Besides wondering about wind buffeting them from the sides, the fronts of
them alone look like they must be in constant battle w/the air. The
low-ness factor: I also wonder about driving on back roads - the washed out,
rutted ones that are dirt, or graveled if they're lucky... these very low
cars don't find themselves scraping the road sometimes?

You'd think. But they actually have a pretty low drag coefficient.

The look of the xB is . . . an acquired taste, maybe. *I* didn't care
for it much when I first saw one, but after sitting in it, my feeling
for it changed somewhat. Then when I drove one, I was hooked.

Mostly I don't worry about what people think of what I'm driving, as
long as the vehicle serves me well and is inexpensive to buy and
operate (I'm a CHEAP bastard! ;^). But I do like vehicles that are
different from whatever most other folks drive or ride. So that
elevates the xB's look in my estimation . . . .

I wouldn't ever try to sell anyone on motorcycling. If someone is
interested, I'll give them pointers, but it has to be something they
WANT to do; the stakes are too high for the uncommitted.

>- you're just too vulnerable.

I recognize my vulnerability every time I ride, which is why I always
ride with ALL my Safety Shit(tm) every time I ride. I DO believe,
however, that my years of motorcycling have made me a better, safer
car driver. I know a lot of folks who've had the same experience when
they started motorcycling.

Unfortunately, some of them are merely fooling themselves (as I could
be too) . . . .
