problem with 1998 toy tacama overheating does any one know the answer???
i have a toy tacama that over heated on the freeway up north in the
snow while i was towing a trailer ?/ why why why?? the truck then
stopped and would not start..after 10 mins it started up again and i
drove home 150 miles with no problems..after i got home i changed the
themostat..what do i do now. I don't know if that was the problem but
i'm going to start there..does any one know why

Your guess is as good as mine. Did the temp needle go up rapidly or slowly?
Sounds like the thermostat was a good starting point. I had a '98
pre-runner that did the same thing to me several years ago . But I was
traveling from Phoenix to Flagstaff in the desert heat. Only did it one
time. Put in new thermostat, never happened again. Scott

Hopefully you didn't smoke one or both of the head gaskets. I have over
heated Toys and gotten away with it, but others weren't so lucky...
Was the front of the truck clogged with snow? Were you in the mountains
hauling a heavy load? How old is the truck? Did you check the coolant
level?
I could go on and on...you could provide a few more details, what
maintenance has been done, yada, yada, yada...
I'll tell you what *I* WOULD do...I would take it somewhere and have the
cooling system flushed. It certainly can't hurt...

There was very little snow on the groud , the temp went up fast , and
then came down , then went up and stayed. the truck stop running and
the engine would crank but would not run. I took the neg batt cable
off and then put it back on and the truck started up. the temp was at
half way like always and the truck came home from up north tat day with
no problems. the oil gets changed every 3000 miles .

Hmmmm...this has happened to me a few times before with Corollas, and a
good flushing took care of it...
