I like Toyotas, I really do...

But every once in a while I would just LOVE to punch a Toyota engineer
right in the nose!

Like the one that put the oil filter on my Corolla GTS directly under the
exhaust manifold. Change the oil when the engine is warm? Right-O, buddy.
YOU stick YOUR hand in there! When the engine's WARM, the exhaust is HOT!!!

Or the knock sensor on my Tercel. In the back UNder the Intake manifold?
What happens when it goes bad, Ace? Cripes! I thought I was going to break
my arm in two places!

Likewise with the fuel filter on the Celica. On the block, UNDER the
intake manifold, at the rear? What the HELL were you thinking?

Now I realize why they said to drain the coolant. The Intake on the Supra
has collant going to it! And, who put those bolts where they were, Hmmmm?
Well, for that matter, WHY did you put the airbox on the OPPOSITE side of
the car from where the Intake manifold is? Hello! Have to take 1/3 of the
engine apart to change the Spark Plugs?!?!?!

Waiter, one round of Bloody Noses, please!


Oh, BTW, don't figure I'm going to wreck the engine by plugging the
exposed intake with dirty socks, do ya?

oh man... last time I burned myself on an exhaust manifold was when I
was about 10 and I tried righting a turned-over minibike. Hachi... tsk
tsk (you didn't burn yourself I hope)

How about the taillight assembly on the 95 Corolla? Have to pry it out
so hard that you risk cracking the plastic housing or chipping inches
of paint off your car...

or the headlight? WTF was the idea of mounting it such that you have
to take half of the battery assembly out, then take a chisel to it
because it corrodes itself in so tightly? Of course I say chisel, but
bear in mind you have to tap it with surgical precision...

tight over the spark plugs? Oh wait I haven't replaced the plugs in my
toyota -- pay someone else to do it... memories from my Ford.

It didn't just pop out? Um, you DID remove the nuts from inside the car,
right?

That happens mostly with Aftermarket wiring...

Some things are better left unsaid...

Of course, it could be worse...TWO fuel filters on a Honda...and one of
them positioned so you have to jack the car, remove the rear wheel, and
STILL have a tough time with it?!?!

Oh nuts. ;) No seriously, I did remove the nuts. But who in the HELL
thought of mounting the damned thing like that? What are they,
Japanese or something??? When you have to read the shop manual to
replace a lightbulb, either you have too much college or the damned
thing is just too complicated.

And NO, it didn't just pop out. It sounded like a screaming pig, then
a bb gun as it popped out. Luckily I had the foresight to steady it
with my hand or it would've flown off and onto the anxiously waiting
pavement. The NEXT time I had to replace it (year or so later,
different bulb), it popped right out of course.

My mechanic races Ford Mustangs and hates "nip cars", but man he is one
helluva mechanic when it comes to toyotas and hondas.

yep. Oh did I mention? I sold my 92 honda to one of the guards at
work. I went into the office today ( we were off one extra day because
of the whole Ford funeral ) and the poor guy is driving it around with
a mashed up front end. Its not THAT bad but one of the headlights is
cracked... I've been where he is, and thank God I've replaced dirty
fingernails for bank debt. I think.

My Toyota is due for a valve cover gasket... thoughts on what else I
should replace at the same time?

For a bit of fun, that way, try changing the speedometer cable on
an old-style Mini. I had to put mine up on blocks, with me on my
back underneath, loosening the nut with a 6" long pair of pliers,
"gripped" at the tips of the handles with the tips of my fingers.
Around a corner. (No doubt such horror stories are everywhere.)
