Actually, it does not.

That is why I am here.

A simple yes or no would suffice.

A car alarm.
An engine immobilizer.

These two items are insurance discounts.

All too often, the car salespeople do not know every single feature.

I am planning on renting a RAV-4 prior to an official test drive to
familiarize myself, so I can test drive - armed with knowledge and very
specific questions.

Thanks for any help anyone would suggest!

Re: RAV4 Question

Immobilizer comes standard on the Limited.. its under the safety tab of
RAV4. None for base model and sport.

I found the info you are looking at on Toyota's web site.

Look at www.toyota.com, go to the Rav4 link, then to the accessores link,
then look under interior accessories for the VIP (last one on the right) for
the Vehicle Intrusion Program. In the e-brochure, it lists a both a remote
start and RS3200 security system.

The engine immobilizer is standard in the Limited trim, it does not list it
for the base or sport trim.

Okay. :)

Yes, I did read that, but wasn't sure if it was what I thought it was.

As for an insurance discount, I would like to be certain as I do my homework
proper.

So, the Limited trim is more than just a few extras.
Actually, I like the leather wrapped stearing wheel with the volume controls
on the Limited trim myself.

Thanks for your help, Ray O. :)

I re-read everything tonight and found that part.

I am considering the trim for several reasons and if Consumer Reports is
correct, this should be even more reliable than my good old Saturn.

It turns out, 10½ years ago, I bought a Saturn simply by doing Internet
research.

This was my first new car and wow, I will always use the Internet to help me
decide.

Seeing how the Toyota RAV4 is very highly rated on Consumer Reports for
reliability makes me consider this particular model, especially the V6 2WD
(best performance for the money).

Right now, I am still deciding which options I will chose.

Thanks again for your help, edv!

Re: RAV4 Question

Owned the first generation RAV4 before getting my 07 camry. In my
honest opinion a RAV4 is not a RAV4 if you get the 2WD. You real feel
the difference after driving an All Wheel drive then move to a sedan.
But anyway, who needs a 4WD when your stuck in traffic in southern
california.

I only had two major problems after 100,000 miles. My power steering
leaked and had to replace seals and gaskets and 2nd my overdrive
indicator light blinked. Toyota said the over drive sensor
malfunctioned, nothing wrong with the shifting but the blinking light
was annoying.

I took my first test drive (RAV4 Limited trim) tonight.

The interior illuminated dash and displays looked like I was a commander
sitting at the helm of a starship.

The tilt/telescopic wheel, 8 direction power seats, etc. were amazing.

I had an opportunity to speak further with both the salesman and his manager
at the showroom and had pointed out that for my important decision, a more
thorough test drive on the highway would help me decide, so they both
agreed.

I am to call and arrange for an appointment to take the RAV4 for a few hours
on the highway tomorrow.

I am planning for Thursday where I will use vacation time just for this.

Because I do not wish to feel rushed with my decision from the sales
pressure, I will speak with my insurance company about my choices and see
what premium I would be paying if I do decide.

BTW, the drive was very smooth (I never drove an SUV before).

I will post back Thursday on the results of my 2nd (and more thorough test
drive on the highway).

BTW, how many hours should I reserve? The manager suggested 2 hours, not
sure if that would be enough time.

I was considering renting, but now I don't have to rent when they offer it
for free.
