97 Tercel cylinder misfire..........

I've replaced the plugs, wires and coil packs............what's left?


I constantly have a cylinder 2 misfire.

I have had it clear up after replacing the coil pack on that cylinder
for a week, but....it came back?!

How did you determine that it is cylinder #2 that is misfiring?

Are the replacement plugs, wires, and coil packs OEM or aftermarket?

What was the condition of the spark plugs you removed? Was there any oil or
gas on the electrodes?

Hi, I used a code reader.Coils are factory parts, plugs are Bosch
Platinum (double electrode).
The plug in No. 2 looked fine.

I used Bosch in my '95 with no problem.

Funny thing, about 2 weeks after I sold the car, it started having the
same problem. I don't know if the new owner ever got it fixed...

So the code reader showed P0302? Can you feel any hesitation in the engine
when driving?

this is all I found directly on a toyota 4 cyl- I'd try swapping the

The toyota sets a code 303, immediatly after warmed up.
Ignition system has been checked as stated before has new
plugs, cap, rotor, and ign. wires. We checked the wave forms
of the crank and cam sensors. all OK. Checked fuel system and
injector wave forms, all OK. Checked valve adjustment and
compression, all within specs. No vacuum leaks or other
mechanical problems found. When perfoming a cylinder balance
test, the miss is barely noticed, but the scanner shows the
misfires especially under a load.

in my original post, it
passed resistance and wave form test perfectly. When i removed
the injector rail I did a quick volume test and visually
inspected the spray pattern of all the injectors. Again
everything looked fine. I replaced the #3 injector with an
original Toyota part, the misfire and code were gone. The
network came through again!

There is hesitation under acceleration, or load...example.. going up
hill.

Not my cure; something I found on a service I subscribe to; but it is the
next obvious route.
When I first got to this shop,. a tech was showing a lot car that had a
misfire- he had disassembled it several times. It too turned out to be an
injector. I wondered if I were doing the diag, I might have swapped the
injector allot sooner.
