I got a new Prius

Just wanted to tell some folks that would appreciate it. We are now on
our second tank of gas and love the thing. It is like a game trying to
work the foot so as to get the best mileage. I am pretty happy with it
all, and still learning about it. The only thing I don't like so far is
that meek horn, and if that is the worst of it, that will be fine.

Thank you Tomes for the wonderful news!

I am very happy for you as I am doing my homework for my next vehicle
(currently researching the RAV 4).

Tell me about where you are driving (highway, local roads, any cities or
landmarked locations) and have you driven it at night yet?

What features did you have equipped with your new Prius?

That is my problem with Prius drivers--they're too busy playing their
dashboard video game to drive.

How about paying attention to traffic instead, and DRIVING?

You people piss me off.

There's a web page out there, a hugely long one, that goes into
incredible detail about how to play the stupid dashboard video game that
Toyota put into the Prius. Frankly, it scares me that people without
lives can go out into traffic, vote, etc.

I'm getting a Prius next month--a company car (gas and insurance paid).
I have two goals: a) never display the video game, and b) get the worst
gas mileage I can possibly get, with the goal being under 24mpg across
three tanks.

In fact, I'll get a rooftop luggage carrier for when I take the family
on a trip through the mountains. I bet I can crack the 20mpg barrier.

Nice to see it fits your comfort zone. I've had mine for four years and
would not trade up to anything else but another Prius.

May it be a long and happy relationship. Have you found all the
storage cubbyholes yet? :-)

If you haven't got a rubber mat to go over the spare tyre, do so.
The standard Toyota part fits snugly and makes that into a useful
storage area: flip up the rearmost section and cool-boxes slot in
the "trench" securely.

Hm. There's that horn again (see other thread). Does the USian
definition of "quiet" (and similar terms) differ from the UKian?

Well, I wouldn't go THAT far, but, God YES!
Never mind trying to squeeze every drop out of it! I can't even tell you
how many times I've been driving the speed limit on local roads (usually
45-50 MPH) and come around a corner to find someone driving a Prius at
about 35 MPH and almost got into an accident trying to avoid taking off
their ass end!

Good God, DRIVE the thing! It will get good enough mileage at normal road
speeds!

Good luck with that...I doubt you'll get below 40...

Hi Fish,
I have been reading along with your threads as well, good luck with your
search.

We drive around here in west central NJ, where we have a mix of
local-rural (30-50 mph limit), highway (50) and a bit of I287 and I78 (we
are just SW of where they meet up). With this mix we have been getting
around 48 MPG so far. I have driven it at night (just got back from a
night trip in misty rain). It works well at night, the lights light
things up well, and I am already used to that Toyota lens sculpting away
the light that would normally point into the opposing drivers' eyes (that
took a bit getting used to in the Sienna in 1998). I see no issues
regarding night driving this car. Why do you ask?

You know, I think that you actually have a really good point. I have made
it and issue to get the passenger to look at that thing instead of me. I
really look forward to your reports.

Yep, and I found myself being one of them until I came to my senses. I'll
play that game if there is no one around (happens enough around here), but
I am a firm believer in doing traffic speed.

We did have this conversation in the car, however, in that we can see in
the near future the nature of driving changing as more folks get these
hybrids and actually do change their driving habits. We're going to end
up with the hybrids versus the gassers. "If you are not with us you are
against us." LOL

This was another thing I liked about it when I test drive one - sort of
icing on the cake. The double storage units in the console - incl. the one
at the bottom front, & the double glove box. Are there even more storage
cubbies, in other parts of the car?
