So... there are Al-Qaeda terrorists in Iraq recruiting more homicide
bombers? How could this be? I thought there were no terrorists in
Iraq, just freedom fighters who are revolting against the imperialistic
Americans.

Under Saddam, there were no international terrorists in Iraq.
Under GW Bush, there are thousands there.

What are the track records of the people who said that, in regards to
their predictions about the war? Did they correctly predict that no
WMDs would be found or that the fighting would still be going on years
after the start of the war?

Hey monkey head - I keep telling you that if the U.S. were invaded, we'd be
doing exactly what the insurgents in Iraq are doing. Would that make us
terrorists, or just crazy mofos trying to toss an enemy out of our country?

Instead we ended up killing one bird (Saddam) and driving the rest of
the Iraqi flock into a frenzy, without trapping the foreign species
(Islamic terrorists) but rather making them to breed more.

And because we send so few troops, western Iraq couldn't be patrolled
and the border with Syria couldn't be secured.

This should cause golf boy's brain fuses to blow. First, a little recent
history. Below are short excerpts from two news articles, separated by solid
lines. Perhaps if golf boy would read a bit more history, he'd see about a
dozen situations just like this one throughout the world.

Bush: U.S. to Sell F-16s to Pakistan
Reversal, Decried by India, Is Coupled With Fighter-Jet Promise to New Delhi
By Peter Baker
Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, March 26, 2005; Page A01

CRAWFORD, Tex., March 25 -- President Bush rewarded a key ally in the war on
terrorism Friday by authorizing the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan, a
move that reversed 15 years of policy begun under his father and that India
warned would destabilize the volatile region.

The United States barred the sale of F-16s to Pakistan in 1990 out of
concern over its then-undeclared nuclear weapons program, but Bush has
forged a close relationship with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf since
Sept. 11, 2001, and considers his help crucial in the battle against Osama
bin Laden's al Qaeda terrorist organization.

Pakistan initially wants to buy about two dozen aircraft, but Bush
administration officials said there would be no limits on how many it could
eventually purchase. The administration tried to balance the sale by
announcing simultaneously that it would allow U.S. firms the right to
provide India the next generation of sophisticated, multirole combat
aircraft, including upgraded F-16 and F-18 warplanes, as well as develop
broader cooperation in military command and control, early-warning
detection, and missile defense systems.

At Border, Signs of Pakistani Role in Taliban Surge
January 21, 2007
By CARLOTTA GALL
New York Times
QUETTA, Pakistan - The most explosive question about the Taliban resurgence
here along the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan is this: Have
Pakistani intelligence agencies been promoting the Islamic insurgency?

The government of Pakistan vehemently rejects the allegation and insists
that it is fully committed to help American and NATO forces prevail against
the Taliban militants who were driven from power in Afghanistan in 2001.

Western diplomats in both countries and Pakistani opposition figures say
that Pakistani intelligence agencies - in particular the powerful
Inter-Services Intelligence and Military Intelligence - have been supporting
a Taliban restoration, motivated not only by Islamic fervor but also by a
longstanding view that the jihadist movement allows them to assert greater
influence on Pakistan's vulnerable western flank.

There are several things that are going on in Iraq and they must all be
addressed for there to be an eventual abatement of the current crisis.

1) Saddam Hussein was removed from power by the US with the blessing of
the UN because he repeatedly ignored the international community's
demands to dispose of his WMDs as he had agreed to following his defeat
in the first Gulf War. By ignoring UN mandates and not providing
verifiable evidence that he had indeed complied to several UN
resolutions he was in effect making a mockery of the UN and ultimately
causing them to be considered ineffective by the rest of the world. He
brought the invasion upon himself by acting stubborn and thumbing his
nose at those who had already defeated him once. If he had learned his
lesson by watching Mr. Ghaddafi from Libya he would still be in power
today.

2) If our country was invaded by another I would certainly expect many
Americans to take up arms and create an insurgency to resist such, and
to a certain degree this occurred early on after we took over Iraq.
National pride and patriotism is something every citizen hopefully has
and many are willing to put their lives on the line to protect the
motherland. But the insurgency can only last so long without
organization, funding, weaponry, and sheer will. These things are
being provided by outside sources and I will address those next.

3) Ethnic conflict was kept in check by Saddam Hussein and his secret
police through terror and brute force. Some will argue that was a good
thing but look what decades of frustration have led to. A dictator who
imposed his will upon the majority class has exposed his tribal people
to severe repercussions by the oppressed now that he isn't there to
protect them. If he had been deposed before it is conceivable there
may have not been such levels of violence we witness today. However
the ethnic conflict we are seeing today is not so much fueled by
animosity between the internal parties as it is by external sources.

4) Iran has turned out to be the major instigator of the secterian
violence due to their desire to become a power player in that region.
They have the resources, the experience, the knowledge, and the will to
manipulate the Iraqi people into doing their battle against the USA
indirectly. Their use of religious fervor among the ethnicities,
supplying of arms, guerilla combat experience and whatever else they
supply to the local militias has enabled the insurgents to continue
their resistance. Without Iran's support this would have been over
years ago.

5) Not content with allowing late-comer Iran to become the primary
player in this scenario, Al-Qaeda has become more vicious and overt in
their tactics by attacking innocent civilians and festering fear and
resentment amongst both sides of the tribal regions. Their
indiscriminate use of homicide bombers to instil terror continues to
exasperate the hatred that fuels this secterian violence. I am of the
belief they are responsible for these bombings on both sides of the
fence.

There are of course other factors to consider but these are my
collective thoughts of the day. If you are willing to contribute to
the discussion without falling into your Gestapo Joe role again I will
be happy to have discourse with you. Otherwise you can continue to
expect to be treated insignificantly.
