I'de want a new one, .......they will try and comb the fins straight, but
that not how it was when you gave it to them to work on.

In reality this is not a problem, unless you think it would impact resale of
the vehicle. I would leave it alone but ask them for a written statement
that they will repair or replace the radiator if a problem cooling the
vehicle or retaining coolant takes place within 3 years. If the RAV4 were
under-radiated to begin with it would be a different story. But if you tow
heavy loads in how weather while climbing the hills and dales I would also
be more concerned. For normal use dented cooling fins would not be a major
concern to me.

The fins on the radiator and the AC condenser core are soft
aluminum, and some of them (depending on the car and the gauge metal
they used) can be very easily bent over with accidental contact - a
brush of a knuckle can make a really nasty looking pattern across the
fins. If they bend large areas, it can block enough airflow to affect
cooling.
As long as they didn't whack the radiator with a wrench or tool hard
enough to damage one of the coolant tubes, the fins can be bent right
back out straight just as easily, and be as good as new. No permanent
damage, unless they bend and straighten the same spot repeatedly and a
chunk of the aluminum fins crack off from fatigue - and even then you
won't lose enough heat transfer surface to matter.
They use a special hand tool called a 'fin comb' that looks like a
miniature garden rake, the comb tips are made in different sizes to
match the fins per inch of the radiator.

Thanks for the replies guys
I will post again when they have done the repair.
So far my main concern has been that they never
told me they damaged it prior to me inspecting
it so I will certainly give it a good look over when
I get it back for anything else that may be
damaged while fitting the radiator as well as the
radiator. I could well imagine resale value being
affected if it did not look 100%

My Toyota dealer dented my radiator fins badly while replacing a cooling
fan. He said the radiator can be repaired. Would this be possible or should
he give me
a brand new radiator as my RAV 4 is only 3 years old
Any opinions appreciated
