03 or newer Corolla

Can anyone tell me if the new body style corolla will actually get the 38-40
mpg? I commute daily and need an inexpensive car that will get me killer
fuel economy and not be worn out when I still have payments to make. Thanks.

Any new small car on the market today will do what you want.
Drive and price all of those that meet your needs and buy the one
that meets your budget requirements, WBMA

An Echo or a Prius would be a better choice if you goal is economy :)

After you get some miles on the car (15,000+), fuel mileage CAN be as high
as 40 mpg highway and high 20s city. Running the A/C reduces that figure a
little. So does lots of stop/go/stop driving. So does oxygenated fuel. So
does cold weather.

If you're really that concerned about fuel mileage, I would opt for an Echo
or a Jetta TDI.

A Prius is really not an economy car in the larger sense. Economy is under
$15k for the car and 35+ mpg.

Automatic or standard? Makes big difference.

A couple miles per gallon is not a big difference WHEN ... one is a commuter
such as Z.Warren is. Clutching in stop/start/stop traffic for miles and
miles gets real old real fast.

Re: 03 or newer Corolla

So how far is your commute and in what type of traffic? If its 12 miles in
stop and go traffic thats a whole lot different than 60 miles at 55 MPH with
no stopping till you arrive.

Re: 03 or newer Corolla

Philip is being telepathic again. The guy might commute on rural roads or a
decent highway. A friend of mine commutes 45 minutes each way on rural
roads in NC at a steady 55 mph.

I do not assume as you do that the OP has your friend's "commute". Why
don't you ask the OP for details?

Obviously I have a rich history here of memorializing coherent thoughts.
You? Seldom. Comprehension and critical thinking skills are your
shortfall, Artie. Such is required to be the hardcore Leftie that you are.
