My real world numbers :
Average cold weather mpg- 45
Average warm weather mpg-54
Gas mileage is not everything. Low emissions in a car that has room,
comfort, and good acceleration is a factor in my satisfaction with my 2004
Prius. My complaint about the Prius is that it needs a bigger gas tank so I
can go over 500 miles on a tank. I have not had one glitch in the
performance of my car after 26600 miles. I know about the complexity
arguement, but I won't have to worry about that for 100,000 miles. I went
on the Toyota site and equipped an Echo similar to my Prius. The MSRP was
$17900 and it did not have all the options available on the Prius. My
conclusion is that the Echo is not the car to compare to the Prius. I think
a Camry or a Mazda 6 is closer in interior size and comfort.
If comfort is not important, get the Echo stripped for $11,000. Great
economy car. Prius is not an economy car. Thanks. Kim
