87 supra

I have seen an 87 Supra turbo with under 70,000 kilometers on it with
all service records. It is in mint shape and runs like a top. It is
located in BC and the guy is asking $10k. What is a car like that
worth?

Thanks for the link but, unless I missed something, Edmunds seems to
be for USA locations. This car is in Canada. Anyone know of a
service like edmunds.com for Canada?

Oh - sorry - I didn't notice that you're in BC (Duh, me!). The only other
resource I know of is Consumer Reports, but you have to be a subscriber.

There are lots of Canucks on this NG, so I'm sure someone will be able to
help you - I've tagged this post for MDT (He's a Toyota mechanic) and I'll
also forward your question to his personal email (Which I can't reveal
without his permission) Bergman can probably help as well.

Good luck!

$10k Canada money? Maybe okay, providing the car was super clean, not
exposed to salt, etc. After all, it's almost 20 years old...

Max price for this car (USD) in primo shape is around $4700. Take into
account CDN, and I would estimate about $7-7500 TOPS!!! And I mean PRIMO
shape!

What'chu talkin' about, Nats? ;-P

Canuckistan? Isn't that the huge blank spot on the map north of
Utah? With the cryptic notation "Here There Be Dragons"? ;-)

Seriously - no ideas here, other than if you are a member of a
national auto club (up there, I believe it's the CAA) they usually
have the Blue Books available for reference.

Google is your friend, it's all about figuring out the right search
words to dredge up the results you need.

The most reliable source is www.autotrader.com
www.autotrader.ca in Canada

Real prices of real cars in real locations.

Any other price lists are theoretical, based on a hypothetical car with a
hypothetical level of fitness, in a hypothetical physical location.

For the OP's viewing pleasure, I took the liberty of doing some legwork for

That wee url dinna work for me. What's the full version?

I would ask the OP what HE knows about the car, and the seller. Buying any
car that old is a pig in a poke, and even if you're buying it from your dad,
it probably deserves a drive to a GOOD mechanic to get a really close look
at all the mechanicals.

Turbo...? 20 yrs old...? I wonder what the percentages are that it could
become a money pit?

The price I derived was for an '87 Turbo, ~45,000 miles, Leather interior
w/power sets, sport roof, AT AC, the *bling*bling* suspension, etc, etc,
with NO rust, mint inside and out. Anything deducts from that. Of course,
with that kind of mileage, I'm willing to bet the thing was parked in a
garage during winters and only allowed out when the sun was shining.

Just to give you an idea, I paid $600 for mine and it needs a transmission
($100). BUT it has 170,000 miles on it. It, too must have been garaged;
there is some rust but nothing 320 grit won't take care of.

I came up with a CDN price of about $4000. This is assuming EVERYTHING is
in factory condition with little wear, leather int, etc etc etc. And AT.
So, to the OP: Unless this thing has a NEW engine or something, $10,000
CDN is the owner's pipe dream. I have all the original paperwork from my
car, bought on Yonge St. in Toronto, and the CDN price in 1988 was $28K +.
When they added in the financing, dealer additions, etc, the total price
was $33,820 CDN.

The owner of this car probably bought it new and to him, it IS worth
$10,000. I wouldn't let my '85 GTS go for less than $2500, but
realistically it's a $400 car!! That's because I know the maintenance
history, what's been done, what it needs, etc. If it's in mint shape, very
well maintained and it's something you want, $5000 to $6000 CDN is
probably worth it. But, bookwise it's $4000 tops. Good luck!
