I was just reading the post regarding sludge, specifically the comments on
emailing and posting the images. It occurs to me that many of the
discussions here could really benefit by the addition of a photo or two.
Anyhow, there are several ways we could do it and I'm wondering what
everyone thinks about:
1. Posting to a binary newsgroup;
2. Posting to one of the many free photo sites;
3. Someone here posting the photos on a personal web site.

You just further proved why WebTV users tend to get criticized often.
This is not a web-based discussion board. This is a newsgroup on Usenet,
and unless the newsgroup's name contains the word "binaries" in it, images
and other binary (non-text) files are not welcome. For that matter, HTML
postings like your sig are also frowned upon.
I suggest you study "Netiquette". Google is your friend; look it up.

Many broadband accounts and lots of dialups come with free Web space. Most
people can set up a simple personal site to show the pics they want to
show. Outfits like Geocities also give you free space.
Posting the images to a binary group is iffy. Not all groups are carried by
all servers, and retention time can be short, so the message may not be up
for long.
Posting binaries to a non-binary newsgroups is considered very poor
Netiquette, as is posting in html. It marks you as a clueless newbie, or as
a jerk.

I suspect there is an equal amount who will point out that HTML posting is
not done in newsgroups, for good reason.

Actually there *are* NGs that not only allow, but encourage binary and HTML,
but this is not one of them. Usually the rec.arts. types are more liberal
about pictures and effects

Well, pics would be good for aiding someone in troubleshooting wa problem,
BUT my server will not allow posting bunnies to a non binary group! So for
me, this is basically a moot point. I bet others will encounter this
trouble also...

Usually, they have "binaries" in the address. Like
NEWS:alt.binaries.automobiles In fact, they SHOULD have binaries in the
address.
open to all, designed for files, recognized by newsgroup feed sellers (like
Supernews) as containing binary files. If you want to post an image, put
it on ABA and mention that in your post here.
