Corolla vs. GEO

I have heard the toyota made the running gear for geo for a few years.
Does anybody know what years? I would like to buy a used Corolla but
thought I could get more for my money if I bought a Geo. Any advice is
welcomed.

Thanks,
Paul

ALL years of Geo Prizm were Toyota Corolla cars with some minor differences.

I bought new a 1990 Geo Prizm. Sold it in 2002 with 282k miles on it. Well
maintained, yes. The car is on its third owner now and last I heard had
about 315k on it and still going fine.

Re: Corolla vs. GEO

All Geo Prizms are rebadged Toyota Corollas. Aside from a few body
panels they are 100% the same, in fact they are built side by side at
the same plant (NUMMI).

Corolla and Prizm ... USED to be built ... end to end at NUMMI. 2002 was
the last year of Prizm.

Re: Corolla vs. GEO

They really are not the same - the Geo uses crappy Delco electrics - radio,
starter, alternator --- the Corolla Denso. All 3 went bad in my 95 Geo ---
I have 4 other real Toyotas both US and Japanese -- had no problems with
their electrics --- only the Delco. The Geo also used a 1.6 engine std and
a 3 spd automatic --- most of the Corolla were 1.8 and 4 spd auto.

Re: Corolla vs. GEO

FALSE, Wolfgang. I OWNED a 1990 Prizm that I bought new. My particular car
had ND wiring harness and ND alternator and starter. SOME Prizms in the
early years had a Delco alternator but still had an ND starter. The radio
was Delco, sounded very good, and never failed to operate. Further, the
Prizm had a Harrison radiator. Another point, the 1.6 engines (4AFE) had
the 3 spd auto with lockup while the later 1.8 (7AFE) had the 4 spd with
lockup automatic. Up until 1995, the majority of both cars were the 1.6
engine.

Re: Corolla vs. GEO

So was there any years the Geo used the 1.8L engine? I was looing into
buying a 98 to 02 Corolla.

I believe 1997 was the last year of the 1600cc 4AFE and the 1800cc 7AFE.
1998 debuted the 1ZZFE 1800cc all aluminum engine.

Don't know about 98 to 02, but my 95 Prizm has the 1.8L engine.

The Geos were available with the 1.6 or the 1.8. I was surprised to find
this out. I guess you have to look for an ?LSi to get the 1.8L

Re: Corolla vs. GEO

In '95 the LSI model Prizm had the 1.8L with 4 spd Auto --- regular model
had the 1.6 with 3 spd Auto --- of course a 5spd manual was available too.

Yep, its an LSi. Power windows and mirrors, alloy wheels, and full leather.
Still running good with almost 190,000 miles on it.
