modern cars can be a pain after battery disconnection, so I try to never
disconnect all power when changing batteries. I have specialised battery
backup units (in the trade) but there is no reason not to just use the
batteries you have, you need a couple of sets of jumper cables, cheap
lightweight ones are fine or make you own from some household cable, they
won't have to carry serious current. connect your new battery to an earth
and a power point on the vehicle, remove the old battery and using the
second set of cables reconnect the old battery to earth and power on the car
(you can use the same points you used earlier, but don't disconnect the new
battery till the old is attached, ) then undo the new battery from the temp
connection and fit properly, then disconnect the old battery. it does not
actually take very long at all.
