All of ours make that smell when we use either the heating or AC; apparently
we're not the only ones, from what I've read here.

That could be the result of cheap quality gasoline wreaking (or would that
be "reeking") havoc with a sensitive catalytic converter. Had you ever
tried different gasoline brands (regardless of octane)?
