Feh - the quakes aren't the main reason we didn't stay. The other two
factors are

Earthquakes didn't really scare me, anyway. There were two while I was
living there

There are natural disasters everywhere; it's a matter of which you can stand.
I think the safest place one should put their mobile home is the southwest.
Yes, there is drought and sometimes tornadoes, but neither is usually all
that deadly. But everywhere else, those folks seem to be disaster magnets.

Heh - actually tropical climes are not great for me. I don't need a tan, and
I hate bugs. When someone asks me if I want to go to like, Aruba, or other
island countries, I always say "Listen, if I wanted to get ripped off on
tourist crap, lie on the beach, risking skin cancer for no good reason, and
be surrounded by underpaid Black folks, I can just come back here to Florida
and visit my family.

The earthquakes aren't quite so bad all the way down in San Diego...
but I think their on the Japan side of the San Andreas fault. Yikes!

Thats cool though -- believe me, my sister has Jesus on her side.

He's on my side as well, but I wouldn't ask His help on that - I'd just move;
which is what I did

The only reason I come to Florida is to see about 99% of my family. If they

Not that I want to see you go, but it's nice to hear of someone moving
OUT of Florida...

***Heh - it's a military move, since there were no lab officer positions at
McDill or Patrick AFBs. The kids and I have been here for the last year,
while hubby was on a remote assignment on the Korea DMZ

At least with a 'cane you can see it coming and prepare (although many
don't).

***And frankly, I have no sympathy for the brain donors who stayed in their
homes instead of getting the hell out, as all of the emergency personnel
advised! Duh, people! What makes that even more ridiculous, is that those
poor island folks would have *loved* to evacuate, but had absolutely no means
of escape. Must have been terrible to know a deadly storm is coming, but you
and your children have nowhere to run. *shudder*

Truckdude, after reading your post last night and remembering the
Temecula, I see on the news this morning there was a 5.3 or so in
"Temecula" area!

Are you OK?

Nah, never been to Corpus Christi. Seems like I visited a number of
that name though. Many, many years ago of course. My formative
years were spent wearing Army OD then Army Green. Been retired from
that for 32 years. And that young teeny bopper is not hitting 40.

Re: OT How to divert a hurricane...

Heard about your little earthquake S. of Palm Springs today. On the
other hand, Arlene came through with a bit of wind, some wave action
out at the beach that gave the barhoppers a show out there, and we
got our lawns watered well. Some old Ivan battered trees fell and
took some lectricity wires with them and 11,000 people lost power,
but nobody hurt or killed. Now we are gonna watch another L on the
map in the Caribbean.

Re: OT How to divert a hurricane...

Quite true. Were I younger, and let it be known I like the
Pensacola area as a place to live (better than central FL where we
lived for 6 years), I would haul out of here in a heartbeat and head
for Rockies country. I love those mountains but didn't realize it
until lately as the wife and I have visited that country several
times. Age though makes us act more sensibly. I would still
consider moving from here as we reside within that 'magic' 10 mile
zone from "the beach" where insurance rates are about to become more
onerous. But this year we collected for the first time in the fifty
years that I have been with this insurance company. Wife and I also
like the SW but to sell here and move there would put us in a hole.

Ah ok....

It was a great little bar.

Back in those days Phil would shut the doors and invite the topless
gals from the club down the street to entertain his regulars.

It totally pissed off the owners of the topless club to know their
gals were entertaining for free....and it totally made us regulars
happy....LOL
