There's this guy, who was out jet skiing. Anyway, his jet ski gets
away from him, and he finds himself in a riptide that sucks him far out
into the ocean.
After hours and hours of praying to God for help... and a night and a
day of drifting in the ocean... exhausted, and dehydrated... a Coast
Guard helicopter appears. The guys in the helicopter throw down a man
and a ladder to rescue him.
Not having any part of this (lest he not allow his faith in God to save
him), he hoarsely shouts, "NO! I'm waiting for God to send a sign, and
save me!"
Well by now he's so dehydrated, he doesn't last much longer.
Unfortunately he quickly succumbs to dehydration and exposure, and
dies.
Well, he's a very good Christian, so he thought. Naturally, he goes
straight to the Pearly Gates. Where he encounters Gabriel, who asks
the pious soul what he thinks happened... "How did you die?"
"Well, I prayed and prayed for God to save me, but he didn't come...
was my faith not strong enough?"
To which Gabriel shakes his head at the child of God, and replies:
"No, no. Your faith was strong... it was your thoughts that got in the
way. Remember all the times you asked for a sign from God? Remember
asking God to please, please not let you die?"
"Why, yes! But, if my faith was strong enough, why am I here, instead
of on Earth with my family?"
"God heard your prayers... didn't you see the helicopter?"

I, too, have always thought it funny when a non-believer feels
qualified to judge what is, or is not, a Christian. Even
funnier when they preach nonsense and claim it to be a
Christian message.
And pathetic when you have to dust the cobwebs off of said message.

Yes but there is a lesson buried deep in that joke....
I'm sure it went way over his head....but I understood it the first
time I saw that joke...maybe 50 years ago???

In this case, be wary of wolves in sheep's clothing bearing old
messages.

Sorry, Eric "Pussy Jesus McVeigh" Dreher.
Dude, your faith is such a hollow, dark and small room... I'm a
practicing Christian actually, but I don't practice your brand of
Christianity

It is to laugh, Eric "Pussy Falwell" Dreher... How do you come to the
conclusion that I am a non-believer? I believe that Jesus died for my
sins. I believe that faith is a verb.
Just because I don't want the church running the White House doesn't
make me a non-believer. I don't worship King James, I worship God.

What part was nonsense? Perhaps the message went over _your_ head?

The message (for me at least) is fresh and new.

Indeed there is. I like simple metaphors.

Man.. what a dusty old fart. I just heard this recently, from an
ex-Heroin addict who through faith and the good works of others was
able to clean her act up (want to see a miracle? A five-bag-a-day
junkie who's been clean for four years) and now spends time helping
other Heroin addicts.
