1997 corolla

I am trying to replace a brake light in my wife's car.

I removed the 2 screws( nuts) visible on out side houseing, I then
opened the trunk and removed the trunk lining, and finally I removed
the brass nut in the center of the housing. Light assembly still will
not slide off. I noticed 2 black "plugs" that move when I move the
housing, but I can not find a way to removed the plugs !!! HELP !!

As I recall you pull it to the side and it slides off...

You have to put a bit of muscle in it...

I got 'em off by using a shop rag, and a flathead as a lever... gently
pried until they popped out. Those two pins snap in.

Oh yeah... forgot to mention, if the assembly is the same as my '95
(and it looks like it is, though they swapped the turn signal lens),
you need to put the shop rag btw the taillight assembly and the car,
and pry it on the side... the light backs straight out. Those two pins
you see inside the car are perp. to the actual pins on the light
assembly... the pins on the assembly itself are male.
