hahahah! Well the thing is, it IS an 'alt' Usegroup that is *unmoderated*
These posts are not taking up space preventing Toyota topics from being
posted. The only harm is some new users to the group will find them to be a
turn off and not participate in any discussion at all.
It's been said before, if you don't like them use your Newsreaders filters
to filter them out.

You need to read a bunch of other 'alt' groups before slamming this one.
Star Trek groups not only have a lot more OT posts, but also have way more
flame threads as well, which is a major reason I left (Not the OT, but the
flaming). And, this topic itself is also technically off-topic. If you'd
like to filter the OT stuff, I mentioned it on the last "You people post too
much off-topic" stuff thread.

So my posts about various stuff is 'garbage' too? I probably don't do as
much OT, but sometimes I share things that I think some here would find
interesting. Pardon me.

Oh, the irony of that being your sig line. Clichéd as it is, life's too
short to get into a lather over the content of posts on Usenet. You would
spend your time much more constructively by jamming bamboo shoots up your
fingernails, honestly
What do you think will happen with this thread? I think I can guess

Yeah - *sigh* I wonder how many OT posts were generated by this sort of rant.

I do or did belong to interest groups and, invariably, subjects of
discussions vary a lot.
Put a bunch of people together in the same room and they will talk politics,
religion, kids, the job, etc.
In this newsgroup, we are no different.
It is what I observed and it does not constitute an opinion.

Scott, you are the main instigator of all this useless babbling.
a.a.t. has become your personal chat room because you don't give a damn
about anyone else but yourself and getting attention. Act your age,
man.

This "unmoderated" argument is yet another excuse people use to justify
their behavior. The group has a name based upon the expected topics in
it. Moderated groups are necessary because trolls chase people away
for some sick sense of satisfaction they receive.
You say "the only harm is some new users to the group will not
participate". Don't you think that is a major problem? If there is no
new blood in this group then it will die the slow death it is
experiencing now. New people should be what you try to attract to
bring experience and help continue learning new things. The only thing
being taught here are political dissension, foul language, flaming, and
a bunch of stupid acronyms by people too lazy to type a word out.

Just because someone else is doing something doesn't make it right.
There seems to be quite a few people complaining about the OT posts.
Also, this post is not OT because it is a discussion about the
alt.autos.toyota forum itself. It is a request for less politics and
more Toyotas. However if you disagree with that then so be it.

My point exactly. The political posters here are creating mountains
out of molehills and blocking the view of the serene valley.

> What do you think will happen with this thread? I think I can guess
I think the same as with any other post requesting OT subjects be
limited. The problem people will say "Tough Shit", "Filter your
posts", "I like it like this", "Go somewhere else", etc. The others
will continue to drift away from this forum and let it die or become
like the other ones you have mentioned.

Couldn't agree with you more. Seldom a response to a serious Toyota
question. Latest example: I asked if someone would be so kind as to check
to see what the part number is on the air flow meter sensor for a '90 Supra.
Only response was "Hey, it's dark outside. Maybe I'll check tomorrow"
which, surprisingly, didn't happen and whch, perhaps, led other posters to
think that my question had been answered. Between the foregoing, and the OT
posts you point out, I have come to the conclusion that there is little to
be gained by reading posts to this group. If I kill filed all the OT's I'd
probably be reading about 3 (maybe) Toyota posts a day. Let the flaming
begin------it doesn't matter.
