I finally got around to taking the Toyota up to the shop to put my new
Pirelli's on... and get this, when I got there I see that Tire Rack
shipped me BF Goodrich Traction T/As instead!!
Well, I talked to my mechanic for a minute -- he said they were
probably actually a little better than the Pirelli's I ordered.. And
since I'm going on a long road trip in two weeks I said what the hell,
put 'em on.
(I just looked, the BF Goodrich's were actually 10 bux more per tire)
While I was there he blew some compressed air in my A/C drain, which
lets out just on the pass. side of center under the car (a little black
rubber hose) and water came gushing.
Best part... he didn't charge me a cent! What a good guy he is...
but can you believe that crap about the tires!!! They are 'H' speed
rated like the Pirelli's but holy mackerel man! Ship what I bought!!

TireRack should have let you know they planned to substitute a better
tire and I agree that it would be appropriate for them to ask you if
that was OK. But saying they 'screwed you' is a little harsh, don't you
think?

What are you, a moron? Did you see the part where I had them shipped
to my mechanic?

And I would've gone along with it -- I was going to buy the tires they
shipped at first but they were overbudget for me.

not at all. The only goddam thing they're supposed to do is
pack-n-ship tires... if they can't get THAT right then yeah, they
screwed me.

As I said, you are the buyer and you the one who accepted them.

Allright, LR, stop cryin'! The Goodrich's were $10 more, so you saved $40,
and besides that, Pirelli's SUCK!

That about sums it up. Except you forgot chronic out-of-round balance
problems.

I had a set of Pirelli's on my 86 Accord lxi and they hugged the road
like a sponge on sandpaper. I could even do 15 over the speed bumps
and cobblestone.
They didn't last for shit, but hey 50 bux for a touring tire, or
whatever, won't bad.
But... you're right, the Goodrich's are a Family Man's tires I suppose.
They'll serve me well on a 450 mile road trip.

Did you just replace two tires? From what I gather you said, you have
two brand new Goodrich tire up front and two older Pirelli tires on the
back? Don't take any turns on wet roads too fast. Go out to a parking
lot on a wet day and have fun practicing rear end slides. You will
learn the limits of your current tire configuration and have fun at the
same time.
