OT President Bush cuts his vacation short to personally oversee the federal effort

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050830/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_hurricane

CORONADO, Calif. -
President Bush will cut short his vacation to return to Washington on
Wednesday, two days earlier than planned, to help monitor federal
efforts to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina, the White House said
Tuesday.

"We have got a lot of work to do," Bush said, referring to the damage
wrought by the hurricane along Gulf Coast areas.

The president had been scheduled to return to the nation's capital on
Friday, after spending more than four weeks operating from his ranch
in Central Texas. But after receiving a briefing early Tuesday on the
devastation Katrina unleashed, the president decided that he needed to
be in Washington to personally oversee the federal effort, White House
spokesman Scott McClellan said.

Mark, is it possible you could configure Google Groups to include the
previous message you are replying to? It would make it much easier to
follow what you are referring to. Thanks.

Guys - differences aside, this Katrina thing is a huge tragedy... i am
donating cash and maybe time if they will take me there... there will be
thousands dead - so say some of my military buddies that assessed the
situation already.... these folks will need everyones help - politics
aside... really, the death toll is larger than 9/11

Good for you! That's what I call an American.

I hope you're wrong about the death toll.

I wish they would provide some frame of reference, though. Harrison county
has the second largest population of any county in Mississippi and includes
both Gulfport and Biloxi and is about a third the population of New Orleans.
Mobile is the second largest county in Alabama, as well, so with New Orleans
Gulfport and Mobile hit, you have 3 states that have been pretty badly hurt.
