Horse power reduction?

My 2005 tacoma is rated at 245 hp.
I just saw a 2006 tacoma commercial on tv @236 horse power.
Anyone know why the drop for the 2006's?

Asians oversell horsepower

Toyota, Honda inflated claims of engine muscle; new tests force
automakers to come clean with buyers.

Horsepower ratings

WASHINGTON -- After years of touting ever higher horsepower numbers
to win new customers, Toyota Motor Corp., Honda Motor Co. and
possibly other automakers are now backtracking on some of those claims.

Strict new tests developed by the industry's top engineering group
are prompting the carmakers to roll back horsepower estimates on
several key vehicles, including the Toyota Camry, America's
best-selling car, and Honda's luxurious Acura RL.

I seem to remember Uncle Sam stepping in and forcing the automakers to
be honest back in the 1970's. I seem to remember that Corvette dropped
from over 300 HP to something around 200 HP in one year, and it had
nothing to do with smog regulations... :>))

Someone here will remember the time frame...

Ever since the 1960s, since it was revealed that SAE means "In GMs opinion,"
I don't listen to their BS.

Re: Horse power reduction?

When I got my 2002 Tundra, I was told that the reduction from 245 to 235 was
for California. Don't personally know whether that's BS.

The two Tacoma engines have the same power. But the 2006 engines were tested
using a newer more stringent SAE standard. Some engines show more hp.
