My project to my 1992 toyota pickup 4x4

My friend has a private mechanic that works on his race car... he gave
me the idea to drop a V8 in my truck, took a look under my hood and
said hed definatly be able to do it... no problem. Looking around my
friends shop, I found 4 engines... a 6 cylander gas engine, 6 cylander
deisel, a 1.9 liter TDI from a jetta, and a massive ford 351 windsor, I
pointed at it and asked my friend if I could have it, of course he said
sure... I pull my truck up, ready to do the swap when i notice that the
engine doesnt have a manual transmission

I will not drive anything but standard. Never. Anyways, come to find
out, its not a 351, its a 391, its been bored out, new valves, new cam,
converted to EFI, and tons of other things (he has a super charger
laying around too). I emailed a company that sells transmissions, and
guess what? They have a transmission, that will work with that engine,
but not only that but it has the 4x4 transfercase so I can keep my 4x4!
Thats over 500 foot pounds of pure torque.

I will keep you all posted on how this goes... all I know is that
engine..... is very powerful, its the same one he has in his race car,
9 seconds, flat, holding a solid wheelie down the track...

You can probably get as much or more torque out of the 6 cyl diesel and get
better fuel mileage, cheaper fuel and a longer life.

I dont wanna have to import the engine from Aus. and I dunno man, the
ford windsor is an engine MADE for torque, and has torque upgrades.

My stock 1988 Toyota pickup has a 22R engine. I bought it new in '88 and
it now has about 190,000 miles on it. With the stock tires and original
clutch I can smoke the right rear tire when I take off and get a little
chirp in second gear. Needless to say, this isn't the way I drive or it
wouldn't have held up.

In other words, with the stock 22R the thing is front heavy and a couple
of strong guys can pick the back tires off the ground. I can imagine
what it would be like with a cast iron V8 up front! Maybe you could
mount your original engine in the bed for traction... :>))
